Volvo XC40 Recharge vs Skoda Enyaq

Definitely a bigger boot which seems important, and if towing regularly AWD can be very handy.
The stated boot is pretty close (605 vs 580 litres) but the Skoda's has more "headroom" for dogs because there is less of a slope to the rear window. In my experience FWD cars are generally horrible to tow with, but RWD isn't too bad. I agree 4wd is better though.

Will take your word that's it's even bigger than an XC60 (which in turn is bigger than the XC40) although it doesn't look it to me, but it's one of those SUVs with a really raked boot.
If the rear is too slanted it robs headroom and pushes the crate further in to the boot which means the boot needs to be longer. This is what I have to deal with
The good thing about the Skoda is that it's pretty square and flat at the back and has more space than the XC40.
Just double checked and the Ioniq 5 vs XC40 vs XC60 vs Enyaq has the following boot space (seats up/down)If the rear is too slanted it robs headroom and pushes the crate further in to the boot which means the boot needs to be longer. This is what I have to deal with

Ioniq 5
Seats Up - 527l
Seats Down - 1587l
XC60
Seats Up - 483l
Seats Down - 1410l
XC40
Seats Up - 452l
Seats Down - 328l
Enyaq
Seats Up - 585l
Seats Down - 1710l
The Ioniq 5 is surprisingly big, Enyaq more so but Skoda really sting you with all the extras and easy to get it near £50k.

The problem is, using litres of space as a measure isn't a great way to evaluate which is best. It's the shape of the boot that matters, in terms of headroom to get a dog crate in. The more raked the boot lid, the further you have to push the crate in to get the boot to shut.
That is true indeed. I guess it comes down to seeing vehicles in question and measuring up?jodypress said:

I've just ordered a XC40 Recharge Plus on a 3 year business lease, should be arriving end of July. It'll mainly be Mrs Diderot's car for a 14 mile round trip commute. She wanted something smaller than our current X3 35d, so the form factor of the XC works for us (no kids or dogs though).
It'll be the first EV for us and it was the first I'd ever driven or been in - and it was a complete revelation. I was considering the Polestar 2, but again the compact size of the XC was a better fit for us. Volvo is arranging and paying for the wall charger installation too, so we should only need to charge a couple of times a week judging by what I'm reading.
Now need to do a lot of research, as there's so much to learn.

Went to look at the Enyaq at the weekend. It's mahoosive. Got a test drive booked for this Saturday. The only couple of downsides so far is the lip in the boot meaning dog crate door won't open, so new crate(s) needed, and the OH saying "it's a bit 'dad car'". Kind of feels like a car for someone ten years older than me.
Popped across the road to the Volvo dealership afterwards. Still really like the XC40 and the boot is deceptively big. The fully electric recharge twin does 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. I'm sure the dogs would love that. Downside is it's only available on subscription (£829 per month ) or a cash purchase of £55610. There may be a business lease option that makes it more palatable. Will try and get a test drive booked anyway so I can compare the two.

If you're going to go down the route of a business lease, go direct to Volvo. Way cheaper than any quotes I could find on Leaseloco.Popped across the road to the Volvo dealership afterwards. As a completely unimportant aside, I've seen some 0-60 times of 4.4. on You Tube. Which is frankly bonkers for a small SUV.

I asked Volvo about this and they said they were only catering to the personal market ATM but would email me when they launched the business model. Still waiting!
Did you go through their Care model?
Found a P8 Recharge on Loco for £519.68 with 1 X month, 10,000 miles and 35 months. I thought this was OK.
If its ok to say so here (don't want to be seen flouting the rules) but I'm a motoring journo who only reviews EVs. Just tested the XC40 and found it to be a wonderful thing, if a touch expensive. I prefer it to the Audi e-tron and Mercedes EQC. Only the I-Pace drives better at this price point.
Enyaq arrives tomorrow for review.....

Presumably that Lease Loco deal was for the standard P8, not the Plus or Pro?

Interesting thoughts MrB. Not driven any of the others so have no views, though the Jag does look like a superb package. Enyaq arrives tomorrow for review.....
If I may make so bold, I think the price point isn't an issue for many business lessors on most of these cars - especially if it's your own Ltd you're putting the car through as it's almost akin to free money (filtered through the prism of man maths naturally). The tax incentives are far too good to ignore right now; thus spake my accountant.
What attracted us to the XC40 was the form factor - smaller than the X3 we had before (and that was crucial for Mrs Diderot), and for my part if I was going to have a leccy car I wanted an effing fast one.
But despite of all of that, I can't wait to have it delivered. I'm just really looking forward to getting into the EV mindset and embracing the future. For me, and yes it's totally bks, but if that future means 408bhp then bring it on. I've not had that much horsepower since 3 of my supercharged Jag V8s.
