Test drove the Enyaq ealier today.

Good size, not huge, not small. I'd say interior space is a little bigger than the XC60 the wife drives. Performance is perfectly adequate, quicker than most ICE cars in the cut and thrust of urban driving. I won't be bothering to check out the XC40 as we looked at it when we bought my wifes XC60 last year. It's too small. The Enyaq sits lower than cars like the XC60 and so is more crossover than SUV. This no doubt helps aerodynamics.

I must admit I liked the big screen which made operation via a touchscreen easier than on many other cars. I even quite liked the way it anticipates junctions/roundabouts etc by slowing down which I didnt think I would. I found regen in B mode to be plenty but concede that ofherx might want more (I still currently drive a ICE)

I favour the Sportline but unfortunately there aren't any currently in the UK but as I'm in no rush I'll wait. The only area I wasn't sure about was the seats and the Sportline has different seats.

All in all, very positive.

It’s good news to me that you found the performance adequate because I’m test driving the Audi Q4 40 e-tron on Saturday which has the same drivetrain. Whilst I don’t crave bonkers performance these days, I do worry that it’s going to feel too lethargic after owning a Model 3 Performance and a Macan recently, and still having access to a current gen Mini Cooper S.

Ideally I’d like the 50 e-tron (300BHP) but it’s going to be silly expensive.

I’ll have to go see what the Sportline offers smile

I currently drive an Audi A8 with a published 0-60 in 5.9 seconds and I would say the 80 Enyaq would be quicker in most real world situations although ultimately the A8 is quicker.

In my test drive yesterday I joined a dual carriageway to find a dawdling learner driver, the dc was about to go to a single lane. The instant power allowed me to easily punch past. In the A8 I would have needed to shift into Sport before getting any real forward momentum. Would I have got by? Possibly but the Enyaq did it effortlessly.

I've had a look at the Audi, but not yet driven. I expected to like the Q4 more than the Enyaq and there were things that I preffered but I was surprisingly impressed by the Skoda.

BTW I checked Autotrader and there are a couple of Sportline models on there. It seems the Skoda salesman was mistaken.

Went to look at the Enyaq at the weekend. It's mahoosive. Got a test drive booked for this Saturday. The only couple of downsides so far is the lip in the boot meaning dog crate door won't open, so new crate(s) needed, and the OH saying "it's a bit 'dad car'". Kind of feels like a car for someone ten years older than me.
Popped across the road to the Volvo dealership afterwards. Still really like the XC40 and the boot is deceptively big. The fully electric recharge twin does 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. I'm sure the dogs would love that. cool Downside is it's only available on subscription (£829 per month eek) or a cash purchase of £55610. There may be a business lease option that makes it more palatable. Will try and get a test drive booked anyway so I can compare the two.
If you're going to go down the route of a business lease, go direct to Volvo. Way cheaper than any quotes I could find on Leaseloco.

As a completely unimportant aside, I've seen some 0-60 times of 4.4. on You Tube. Which is frankly bonkers for a small SUV.
Business lease?

I asked Volvo about this and they said they were only catering to the personal market ATM but would email me when they launched the business model. Still waiting!

Did you go through their Care model?

Found a P8 Recharge on Loco for £519.68 with 1 X month, 10,000 miles and 35 months. I thought this was OK.
Evening chap, yes Business lease direct. Volvo Care won't cater for business apparently for a number of months yet.

Here's a link: https://www.volvocars.com/uk/cars/business-sales/b...

Presumably that Lease Loco deal was for the standard P8, not the Plus or Pro?
Thanks for the PM - reply isn't working for some weird reason.

Yes that wasn't far off the figure from your PM (an extra £38 a month), mine is a Plus though and I've specced Nappa and Nubuck. The Pro has major delivery delays apparently due to the microchip shortage. Personally I didn't want the radar cruise so not bothered.

Thanks for the tip re. leasing.

Got a test drive booked in the Volvo Recharge P8 on Thursday.
No problem. I'll be very interested to hear what you think.
Just got back. Had the car for an hour. Will be phoning Skoda tomorrow to cancel the test drive in the Enyaq coolcoolcoolcoolcool

That is a LOT of fun. And very comfortable. We brought it home over the speedbumps and potholes (country lanes) and it took everything in its stride, not jarring and not overly soft. Stretched its legs on the A5 and grinned like a child. Steering was nicely weighted not overly assisted. Decent driving position. I liked the fact that the central touch screen runs Android and so the nav is Google Maps (which also shows up in the drivers binnacle between the speedo and range/gear dials) and you can log in to your Google account and access apps. It's quiet and I thought that would mean the wind/road noise would be annoying but I can't say it was any louder than driving an ICE car at motorway speeds. Downsides for me are that all the functions like aircon, seat/steering wheel heating etc are operated via the central touch screen so when you are driving, if for example you want to nudge the aircon down you have to take your eyes off the road to the screen to select the right option, rather than being able to keep your eyes on the road and reach down for a familar feeling knob (quiet at the back). The other downside was the significant lag when pulling away - felt like about half an inch of throttle travel and the car doesn't move for a second, then it takes off. Dealer said this was because it was in "battery" mode - so highest regenerative braking / battery saving and if you switch that off the response from a standstill is instant. Will take his word for it.

Dealer gave me some figures from Volvo Business finance for a 6+48 contract lease on an XC40 recharge P8 Pro (so top of the range) with the tow bar option (which we'll pay as a one off) and a free wallbox. Will have a shop around tonight but from what's been said on here I won't get it any cheaper but it's worth having a look.

It's v.expensive but it drives well, is very comfortable and has a lot of toys. I'm really impressed. My driving profile is short journeys with the odd 100 mile round trip so even in winter the range shouldn't be a problem. Very tempting.

Really glad you liked it 48k and it worked out for you - I thought it might just have been me smile. It's a quality bit of kit, especially in your Pro trim. I had a good play with the Google infotainment and it's pretty impressive. And yep the acceleration is hilarious for a small SUV.

And good news on the wall charger. It's the Shell Newmotion one that they install apparently. Ours will be installed mid July just in time for the car delivery.

What colour are you going for? We've gone with the Red.

Thanks for the info on the wallbox. Is that a 7kw jobby? This is all new to me there is a big learning curve. If only there was a manufacturer-agnostic online FAQ for the world of EVs in the UK (he says...noting that ev-faq.com domain is available laugh).

Mrs. 48K really likes sage green but I've specced Denim blue. The other day the dealer said delivery was November-ish but today he's "been put in touch with someone in Leeds" who has said he can get stock a lot sooner. How long ago did you order ?

I know what you mean about the - it's-all-new-to-me stuff. I've been doing a st ton of research on the whole EV thing and still have so many questions. For instance, I can't find an answer anywhere whether they require running in or not.

Anyway, yeah we placed our order end of May (for a Plus) and early-mid July delivery. Oddly enough Volvo seem to be able to source Volvos more readily than anyone else smile. Denim Blue looks lovely in the flesh but the Mrs wanted the red. What is a chap to do?

I think you should definitely buy the domain.

Haven't placed an order yet, spoke with dealer yesterday, waiting for him to come back with some figures.

Diderot - Did you go for the Twin battery, was it rapid?

For me, it's a 3 horse race between the XC40, Ionic 5 and the new Kia EV6. All seem to be about the right size with various plus and minuses.

Lease pricing seems to be about the same for both Volvo and Ionic.

Following a recommendation on here, talk to Volvo directly if you want to finance the XC40, no one else I researched could beat their rates.

My company didn't get approved for Volvo finance (despite Volvo finance being white-labelled Santander and the company business bank account is with Santander), but the dealer got me the same terms for £30 per month more through a broker.

Yep, they're only doing the twin battery 408bhp model at the moment, Rapid indeed - official 0-60 is 4.7, but a few online launches have been around 4.3-4.4 seconds Which is mental for a small SUV. Carwow got 4.1 to 60 out of the Polestar 2 incidentally which is the same platform, battery etc. More impressive is the 30-70 type acceleration - bonkers.

From what I seen, both the Kia and EV6 are substantially bigger than the Volvo - for us ideal as the Mrs wanted something smaller than our X3 35d.

As 48k mentions, direct through Volvo seems to be the way to go sand they also throw in a free home charger installation too.

I think the kia ev6 will be the pick, closely followed by the 5.

On this, I've had our (D5) XC90 for 4 or 5yrs now...it gets easier to use the centre screen, but recently I've been playing with the voice control function on the car and it works really well, especially for the more needed functions like these...

I still think some physical buttons in addition to voice control would be best, but it does work.

I have a home charger at the moment as I own a plug in hybrid.

Just found out the Ionic 5 4 wheel drive has an end on Nov delivery which could be too late for me. That said I'd be surprised if the Ikea would even be this year!

That said the Iconic 5 fully loaded comes out cheaper than the Volvo ( about £30pm) when I thought they would be similar.

Testing the XC40 next week.

Will take your word that's it's even bigger than an XC60 (which in turn is bigger than the XC40) although it doesn't look it to me, but it's one of those SUVs with a really raked boot.

If the rear is too slanted it robs headroom and pushes the crate further in to the boot which means the boot needs to be longer. This is what I have to deal with hehe

The good thing about the Skoda is that it's pretty square and flat at the back and has more space than the XC40.
Slightly "off-piste" as I'm not yet in the market for an EV but I still use a Volvo 940 Estate for family use as it's the only car that I can get two dog cages in without dropping the back seats, even a XC90 isn't as big due to the rear sloping back and extra padding along the sides.

Two dog crates always seems to be a challenge that's why we have one big one with a divider.

XC40 ordered now, just waiting on a delivery date, should be some time in October.

Finally heard back from the dealer - delivery should be 16th October.

He's asked if he can pass my details on to NewMotion so they can arrange to fit the complimentary home charger but I've looked at the unit and it's mahoosive. Think I'd rather pay for a Sync-EV than have a free NewMotion.
