Longer tethered charger cable
Discussion
HI All
With my nmw 530e nearing the end of its 4 year life with me I have just upsized and ordered a q7 55 tfsie phev as a replacement.
Now the q7 has the charge port at the rear of the car and not the front like the bmw. So I need a longer tethered type 2 cable on my non-smart 32a home charger.
I can find replacement longer cables online. Is it usually a simple job to swop out on the charger? Or any gotcha I should be aware of?

Tempted to go for a 7.5m to replace the one on my Ohme, looks easy enough.

Swoll.. yes could reverse in, but would be a pain as a hedge borders our drive which I can park the left side right up to if I drive in forwards. As I'd have to leave room to open the door and get out if I reversed in it would leave less room (being a powerfully built director type) on the drive for our other cars.
So no experience of someone replacing the tether? Should be a fairly easy job so think I will open up the charger to check and then proceed to order the cable.
No rush as 6 months lead time on the q7...

If you live on any sort of main road legally speaking your supposed to reverse into your parking spot anywaySo no experience of someone replacing the tether? Should be a fairly easy job so think I will open up the charger to check and then proceed to order the cable.

What about a Type 2 extension cable?

Given that you can buy replacement cables it's not rocket science to fit a new cable but you may void your warranty & you should probably get it done by an electrician. Here's an example:

Dependent on the charger, changing the cables can be simple or a little challenging to do. If you are not competent to do that yourself you need to find someone who is. Not the easiest thing.
Bear in mind that the cables are quite weighty too so a 7.5 is quite heavy to drag around (as is a 10m).

I specced my Andersen A2 with an 8.5m cable. The cable is branded as Evoflex and I thought it was a bit of a gimmick to be honest, but it is a genuinely better cable than what you might expect to see elsewhere. It's rubbery like pond flex, light weight and flexible; so if you want a longer tethered cable, try to see if you can get one of those?
The cable is generally held in with screw terminals can can be removed and replaced if you can dismantle the charger. This is certainly the case for the A2 and POD Point chargers.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm fairly competent with a screwdriver and the charger is approaching 4 years old so out of any warranty.
The comments on reversing were not particularly helpful in the context of the thread, but as they led to a pedantry matters grammar comment I'm quite happy!
