I bought my Leaf in 2013 so I could preserve my Monaro, not have to drive it through another winter. Until the arrival of the Mustang, the only RHD muscle car ever sold in Britain.

Any other ICE would be a come down after the 5.7 litre V8 so I enjoy the instant smooth torque of an electric motor and make engine noise sounds effects my self.

The reason i bought a BEV is because a herd of deer lept onto my 3 series!

I was stopped in a passing place on a single track country road, and a bout 25 deer, spooked by a tractor in the field, came bounding through the hedge and used my car as a rather convienient launch pad to jump off! £4k worth of damage! Anyway, that was repaired but a month of so later i noticed that the repairers hadn't replaced the small plastic cover plate from the front inner wheel arch (that allows access to the headlight bulbs) so i popped into my local BMW dealer to get that part, and er, came out with that part and an i3............

I realise this is a pretty specific reason to buy a BEV so i'm not expecting it to be added to this poll :-)

Just signed up for a Seat Mii lease for £150 a month
I work pretty much permanent lates and nights on public transport, inside the upcoming Ulez zone.
Ironically public transport has finished by the time I finish.
If I keep my current car it will cost £200 a month Ulez on top of my £100 a month.
Charging posts at work via Bp Pulse, 32 miles a day commute, its a no brainer for me.

Primarily to save the planet, but also because running costs are much smaller.

I've not bought an EV car, I've gone for an EV motorbike.

I had a think about what it was exactly that I really needed from my diesel estate. The answer was 95% transport to and from work, for which the diesel was fine and dandy. However, work are putting a £12/day charge on parking of ICE cars, so it probably has to go.

Price of new model 3 or whathaveyou £50k ish.

What was the minimum I could get away with to transport my lardy arse into work - a leccy scooter or even just one wheel in the form of a one wheel skateboard ?
They are illegal (for now) and have crap power and range. Plus the one wheeled skateboard things are difficult to ride apparently.

Electric mopeds looked possible, but they lack power (typically 1.25 kW max), and look crap.
(Having done my CBT this weekend on a 125cc moped I'm sooooo glad I didn't get one)

Electric motorbike ?
Super Soco and Sur Ron offer bikes around 5-6 kW which qualify as mopeds, so you can ride one on a CBT or A1 licence.
Zero mostly do more powerful bikes, and more powerful prices. Look nice though.

I bought a Sur Ron, have completed my CBT, and am planning either full access or A1 then A2 next year when I have some miles under my belt.

Costs approx 28p per week for 2 kWh of fuel (50 miles ish range).
It is so super easy to ride too.

(Miserable riding in the wet though...)

Diesel estate will get the chop soon. Someone else can enjoy it till it's made illegal.
EV car for me next.

Bike looks cool….I do feel something 2-wheeled and electric will be in my future!
I can imagine the wet also being tricky with the instant electric torque….

On the bit I highlighted….having got a Kona EV that we love & use whenever possible, I’m coming to the conclusion we may end up keeping our XC60 diesel forever. It owes us nothing (almost 7 years in from new, spec’d to the hilt so very comfy), still only around 82k miles with fewer going on with each passing year…. It is great for the tip run, or when we need more boot space, or indeed when we want to travel long distances without long recharge times & stress (eg, longer distance holidays). Still looks surprisingly smart when given a little TLC:

Bought my first i3 out of curiosity and opportunity. Had it as a company car on a short lease and figured "it'll either suit me and my needs, or not". Nothing lost, couple of years to properly try. I chose the i3 specifically as I liked the whole clean sheet philosophy and I actually like the look and design of it. And the BEV rather than REX as it wouldn't be my only car and if I was to try the EV thing it was either all in or not, not to drag around an engine 'just in case'.

First i3 was the first gen. Range of 90 miles on a good day, 70-80 more usual, 60+ in deepest winter. Over 24 months only twice did I get worried by range but never actually ran out. We can all find a reason why we need to jump into a car at late notice and drive 400 miles, but my experience was that the vast majority of miles done are relatively short journeys. Charging at home is simple and where I am, there are quite a few public chargers.

Point proven, I went without for 12 months after the lease and increasingly felt bad at firing up the big 3.0 diesel for 3 or 4 miles to the shop. The wear and tear, lumpy running while it was cold and barely warming up, fuel consumption being hammered over those short journeys. Where my main car is fabulous for those 400 mile trips, for the majority of miles, it is perfectly capable but just isn't suited.

2nd i3 is an i3s with twice the battery range (120Ah version). It is brilliant. Range is never any issue. The 's' spec cured the slightly wobbly feel of the first one as it has a wider track and lower suspension. And overall improvements to the electronics since my first version made little thinks like the regen much much smoother and quicker to respond so slippery surfaces aren't as alarming as they could be on the first version.

Now, no hesitation at all about jumping in the EV for nearly every journey, nothing to wear out, no downside to energy consumption from cold, pre-heat is a brilliant feature in winter. I wouldn't be without one and the 3.0 diesel spends most of the time parked up on a battery conditioner for those times when I do do the long trips. It's paid for so I don't worry about it, but I'd seriously think twice about keeping it if any finance were involved as it can sit for months without moving.

For me, total convert to EV for the vast majority of everyday use but recognise it's not suited to everything. I have an A110 on order having said that, which offers something else entirely.
