Kia EV6 vs ioniq 5

Specsavers for you
Nope. Area is smaller for both the Ioniq and EV6 vs the Y and i4. I'll give you the Model 3, but by <1.7% vs EV6, <1.1% vs Ioniq 5. In the grand scheme of things that are broadly the same size (e.g. not a Mini to a Range Rover!), but from their aesthetics I was still surpised that the "SUV-types" are actually smaller.SWoll said:
Wider though, which is usually the dimension that causes the most day to day challenges (parking, country lanes etc.)
Agreed. I'd be interested to know how wide a typical parking space is, as there's only 3 cm to the Ioniq, 4 cm to the EV6.JonChalk said:

Pretty daming comparison for Volkswagen. Interesting to note the tester's comment ref. headroom for taller drivers.

Dunno but often not big enough for these super wide EV's! The width combined with thicker modern doors (crash protection) makes it impossible in many spaces near me to open the door wide enough to get out - either side.

Cars these days have gotten too big.
I remember having two regular car boxes. The 159 fit pretty well in it, although I had a bit of foam on the back wall to put the car against.
Then I took a Jag XF for a test drive.
Turns out the garage box is 5m, the jag 4m97. Good thing the handle fit the grill of the Jag . I can tell you I stepped inside the first couple of times I closed it just to make sure.
I've moved house since then, gotten a Model S thinking it's about the same length so will be fine. Turns out it's EIGHT CM wider.
FFs why have these cars gotten so wide?
There are multiple parking spots, especially in the Netherlands, I can actually touch the lines on both sides with the tires.
I was very interested in the Aptera
Until I found out.... get this... it's 2m20 wide.
Every year we have a Twizy for maybe a couple of weeks, it's just great how it can fit through any gap.
TL;DR, I've found the width of a car is very important for day to day usability, it looks like both he EV6 and Ioniq 5 are narrower than the Q5 which seems perfectly usable to me.

I parked next to an EV6 in the work car park today and I was quite surprised at how compact it looks. Possibly because it's not as tall as I was expecting.
Yea... several of these EV giants look average sized, especially if they have proportionality large wheels which helps maintain the illusion. But then viewed next to a 'normal' car..

It does seem that the average width is headed to approx 2m, although as you say, some are narrower which is good as there are places where there really is a maximum width of vehicle before it becomes impractical.
Having said all that, I can't see the trend for bloated cars changing anytime soon...

So I finally got my lanky butt into an EV6 GT Line (non-S, thus non-panoramic roof) at the weekend. I fitted! 2" of greater headroom compared to the 'S' variant. I suspect that my next car (once used prices drop!) will come down to the preference of my wife between the EV6 and Ioniq 5. (Currently looking like the EV6, at least on external appraisal.)
