So our RAC chap last week mentioned he's now getting an average of 2 callouts per day for EV's that just suddenly stop working with no prior warning. Recovery to main dealer is simple enough.

But appparently there is one model that fixes the handrake ON in such an event and RAC cannot winch it onto a truck, the car needs to be lifted.
I cannot recall the make/model he mentioned, does this ring true ?

I guess any electrical fault which completely disables the 12v system on a car with an electronic handbrake (whether on an EV or an ICE vehicle) will result in the hand brake getting stuck in whatever position it was in at the time the fault occurred?

You wouldn't really want it to automatically let the hand-brake off if it lost 12v power, would you? Automatically engaging it wouldn't be much fun if you lost 12v while driving either! hehe

Sort-of happened to me, but not EV. (Not my car, BTW, this was at work)

Electrical problem meant that the handbrake would not release and although there is a manual release/wind-back system to deal with it, it was much quicker for the AA chap to put the small dollies under the affected wheels to get it winched onto the truck.

This is a problem with most electronic parking brakes, it’s not an EV issue.

Calling BS on a single RAC guy getting called to an average of 2 completely immobile EVs a day too.

I didn't feel like calling an RAC employee a liar.

There are tons of things that can disable an EV. Pretty much any kind of issue with the HV system will prevent the contactors closing. There’s safety loops through access panels and connectors, RCD type stuff, covering not just the motors but AC compressors, steering racks, all sorts of ancillaries.
