ID-3: is it just me?
Discussion
Nothing wrong with the ID3 but having driven it and the Kona Electric I prefer the latter over the ground up EV design of the VW even given the limitations of an ICE conversion and the arguably low rent interior.
Also tried the most recent gen. Leaf and was surprised to find no reach adjustment on the steering wheel and I find that I can't drive far with my knees directly under my chin. I was hoping for more range this time round too.
I'm now considering either the BMW 128ti or the 64Kwh Kona electric.
Don't laugh, a decade ago it was between a Freelander HSE and the 3rd gen. Prius!
I already know the dyed in the wool PH'er choice.

Even the PH review is complimentary…https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-driven/volkswa...
I don’t think anyone is saying that on its own is the measure of a good car. As I said above, I have no doubt it’s technically competent, but that isn’t all I am looking for. I want to feel like I am somewhere …. God I don’t know I am struggling with the vocabulary here, “special”, no thats foolish for a family car, “somewhere that I feel good in…, for the money…” I dunno what ever, but this ain’t it. I kinda feel like I would be driving a VAG platform with a Vauxhall body shell. There, I said it. I am a snob. Hell.

Well that cleared that up then - what on earth are you trying to say ?Do you think people feel special (whatever that is) in a Golf ?

BMW i3The most special "small car" i've ever driven. Ignore the way it looks (if you can lol) and drive it. 99.9% of owners absolutely love their i3's and there's a good reason for that :-)

Maybe I wasn’t clear enough. I did say that special wasn’t the word I was looking for. I like my golf, it may not be “exciting” to drive but at least it feels sold and well built. I don’t feel like anything will come off in my hand. It’s a 2012 car so the infotainment isn’t up to my wife’s 1 series but it reliably plays radio 4. The only complaint I might have is that it doesn’t have climate control, which it ought to have for the price but hay ho.Do you think people feel special (whatever that is) in a Golf ?

All subjective, I find the MK8 nose dreadful and much prefer the ID3 personally. The ID3 interior is not good however. Very fisher price/Vtech.

I must admit the interior of the i3 is much better. But 158 miles is well down on benchmark these days. I’d have to be able to get down to my Mums on one charge ( about 100 miles) in all weathers and be able to charge it up with a basic charger before heading home. Any car that claims 158 probably does more like 125 with winter motorway driving and that’s getting marginal for me.The most special "small car" i've ever driven. That's exactly how the ID3 feels, solid, well built and nothing rattles. It's superior to the Golf in every respect except for knobs (if that's your thing) and some materials. The basic version is very well equipped.Byker28i said:
Cough - TVR Cerbera with Recaro Start seats...
Some of us have both (well without the Recaros!!!)Thankfully my small children are now old enough to drive me back from the pub in their cars!
I just need the garage to get the engine finished being re-built in the Cerbera and I think I have the winner!!
I quite like my ID.3!! I'll get my coat!!
Cheers
