I was a bit unsure about the ID.3, after watching reviews about the interior quality, buttons/UI and the software, but thought we should really go and have a look for ourselves, 4 year old and 10 month old in tow with pram and two car seats! We actually really liked it, coming from a Leaf 40 it felt much more modern, cabin really spacious and airy, boot slightly smaller than the Leaf but still plenty big enough.
To drive it reminded me of the i3 we used to have, rear wheel drive and also the gear selector which we like. Been looking around at others such as the eC4, which didn't really do it for us, but finally decided we'd just have to stomach the wait and get an interim car when the Leaf goes back in Jan.

Just signed a lease for a Family Pro Performance in Makena Turquoise yesterday, £350 a month on a 1+47, 10k pa. The broker is saying April but looking on FB groups at delays I'm thinking more like May/June at the earliest!
You are going to be pleased with your new interior - much better now

The MY22.5 update is now on the configurator

All the plastic piano black material is now gone. Door cards, dashboard and centre console will all be updated with more premium materials, and for all trim levels

Biggest change is the seats. Vegan leather with art velour inserts (like alcantara??)

All models bar the life get this new seating, although you can still get it on the Life for just over £1k option, along with a few other bits n bobs within that option pack

I should have said, all cars built from 20th Dec onwards will have the updated interior

I like what VW are doing with the configurator

One of the benefits of buying a new car is to build a car personal to you, and you only pay for what you want

Manufacturers have been moving away from this, and limiting how bespoke you can make your car. Good to see VW giving good options to tailor your car again

I went with a basic Life model and added:

58kwh battery
204hp motor
Alloy wheels
And, hopefully, this 'Style' option for upgrading the interior. I'll ask the dealer on Monday if I can add it

For me, I pay for the things I really want, and don't pay for things I don't. It's great to have that level of choice when building your car.

Yep, it looks miles better, very pleased that I’ll be getting it on my Max. Looking forward to seeing some actual photos. I think they’ve got rid of the piano black bits too.

Big changes coming to the ID.3 tomorrow. VW are removing every trim level bar the base Life version.

ID.3 changes from 10th Feb 2022.
Due to the huge success of the ID.3 being the no.1 selling electric hatchback in the UK for 2021 VW UK are rationalising the current ID range. This is due to the semi conductor issues, therefore changes are being made across Europe to optimise the supply situation. From the 10th there will only be one model you can order this is an enhanced ID.3 Life with the 58kW 204ps motor with an enhanced trim. This gets –

1. Interior style premium seats with artvelours micro fleece finish.
2. Tinted rear windows.
3. Assistance pack, inc rear view camera, keyless entry and illuminated door handles.
Cost will be £35835.00

Options will be metallic paint, 18, 19 & 20" alloys, three pin charger cable, bike carrier and heat pump.

VW will continue building existing orders which will be built as planned and price protected.

The Family, Max and Tour are being removed from the ordering site and showroom apps and website.
This decision has been made to minimise production restrictions and to optimise the current supply situation.

Well this did not age well! Broker now advising October, so I've cancelled.

There is apparently a backlog of 95000 ID cars from last year.

The new spec certainly looks like a plea for people not to buy it.

Funnily enough we were told this morning (Renault dealer here) that all offers had been dropped, deposit contributions dropped etc as VW don't want to sell anymore as they just don't have the capacity for the remainder of this year, a combination of popularity and chip shortage.

That's interesting, but hardly surprising. They pulled the deposit contribution on the ID.3 back at the start of November, and the level that dealers were discounting them dropped significantly. Guess they have a big game of catch up to play!

I wasn’t getting that vibe from your post….

Didn’t you look at any photos before you marched off down to your deal to slap down a deposit?

For what it's worth I quite like the ID3, it's understated, though it drove quite nicely too, horses for courses as they say.

Where does the time go.

Arriving on the back of a low loader tomorrow apparently, quite excited.

Still don't know if it will come with the facelifted interior.

Is there an easy way to tell whether an ID3 has the updated interior?

I think BMW made a better job of the i3 interior tbh. I'm still very underwhelmed by the ID range so far. Not just the interiors.

Ok thanks, I assume the one I have as a demo is not the updated version as it has these seats?

Was the infotainment also updated? I hope so as it is so laggy

That's Life trim, so the most basic. How old is your demo?

Its a 71 plate. Not sure on when it was built or first registered.

OK, so it will be on the old software, which can be laggy.

There is an over the air update in the works at the moment, which is supposed to improve things - don’t think it’s been released in the UK yet, but there’s a couple of reviews on YouTube already and it does seem to have addressed some of the issues.
If you’ve purchased from a main dealer, the software should have at least been updated from the initial release version, which was quite rightly criticised by just about every reviewer.
Been running mine for 3 months now ( Pro S Tour ) and for what it is, it doesn’t drive too badly really and am achieving fairly close to the published range.
If you’ve got a long journey to cover, then it’s actually rather good at dealing with the monotony of boring roads and traffic, if you use the drive assist function.
The infotainment could certainly be better though - and whilst this might sound as though am damning it with faint praise, once you get used to it, it’s perfectly usable.
However, no matter how good the next update is when it’s finally released, the infotainment is never going to be class leading, though it will be interesting to see just how much of a difference it makes.
Fortunately have a very analogue motorbike for weekends / fun, so this is purely for work or more mundane journeys and it handles that brief pretty well.
