No harm in different and choice and what not. I think the Tesla Model 3 interior is god awful and really like JLR interiors so... great that there's choice.

And another, 1 month into M3 LR ownership and loving it. Previous 3 cars were various 5 Series and I cannot realistically tell the differance in quality. For most other things, driving, convieniance, infotainment, features the M3 LR is better.
That surprises me. I came from a succession of 5-Series, E-class, A6 company cars and the Model 3 is clearly in a class below from a quality/materials perspective IMHO. Don't get me wrong, it should be as it's actually a 3 series rival.

The OP is definitely going to tell the difference having come from a 6-Series and high spec E-Class.
Thats what I most worry about.

However having been in an iD3. it can't be that bad!??

No, a lot better than the Fisher Price interior in the iD3. No hard, scratchy plastics and the touchscreen actually works properly..

I’m not sure. I’ve ordered an ID.3 over a Model 3. I preferred the interior in the VW and the infotainment running the latest software is perfectly fine. Plus I get an augmented reality HUD, blind spot assist, CarPlay, Matrix LED headlights and area view. Nothing that you actually touch is bad, and for me the seats are far better, the steering wheel is nicer to hold and the feel through it is far superior. ETTO of course, but for me the ID.3 was far easier to gel with.

Wonder when tesla will switch on the matrix feature on their headlights, they've been included on china cars for a while I think

I was buying my car, so my priorities might well be different. The Model 3 felt special, the id3 simply didn’t. I’d lease the VW, but not buy one.

I'm interested to see if anyone has done some real world calculations about the effect on overall journey times if you pick a lower cruising speed. Energy needed to overcome air resistance increases with the cube of speed, so you need more than twice as much energy to cruise at 80 rather than 60. So theoretically there must come a point where for a journey that might require a recharge if you blat along at 80 is going to be able to be done without a stop at 60.

In practice of course, I reckon it's not going to be applicable in many circumstances, because (a) people don't actually cruise at 80 for significant periods of time, and (b) you're going to want to stop for a pee and some coffee every couple of hours anyway, so you may as well be charging whilst you do it.

I’d guess it’s entirely subjective, I liked the Tesla and I thought I’d buy one, but I didn’t think it felt “special”. I don’t really get that feeling from any family cars to be honest.

Im not sure if you’re assuming that I’m not buying the ID.3, but I am, it’s a private purchase. It’s an interesting point though, because you’ve bought a car that is ubiquitous with company car drivers, as this thread highlights.

Horses for courses IMO, both have flaws, your decision will be based on which car fits into your life best. Bringing emotion into this kind of purchase seems odd to me.

Indeed, I'm glad it's not just me! At the end of the day I just cannot get excited about "fridges"

The ID3 is a great blend of size (not too big), performance, range, space, charge curve, drives well and is not a stupid pretend 4x4. Let's not forget the price.

I would buy a TM3 if I needed it but things like the Ioniq 5 are just another fridge that doesn't work properly

What’s your actual average speed for the whole journey? I’m always surprised by people that claim they can drive at 85-90 for extended periods on UK motorways, assume they must be on the only traffic and roadwork-free sections of motorway in the country
Why are you surprised? For that journey 6hrs makes you have an average around the legal speed limit. With a bit of thought around departure time to determine when you hit the congested Manchester->Birmingham corridor and it is easily achievable. North of manchester you can regularly carry whatever speed you feel comfortable with.

Yes TeslaBjorn tends to do this on his 1000km challenges. Really depends on what chargers are available if you need them, lower power charges/slower charging car and you want a lower average speed, a fast charging car with fast chargers you can have a higher average speed and do better.

I’d be amazed if you could actually do it in 6 hours. Maybe leaving at 10pm or something, if you always do it overnight then fair enough I suppose - although the sections of roadworks with average speed cameras on the M6 will still slow you down to 50/60 for extended periods.

from when the order went in to me getting my first text, it took a week. how long after that till you get a vin/proper delivery date? I know they're showing December online for delivery.

Also, there's a good chance I'll be away for some of November, will they just be able to drop it on the drive and post the key card etc etc? in a no faff style?

Car arrived yesterday.

What I can say is that it feels miles better in everyway being a Chinese built model 3 over the American one I used 18 months ago.

Quality is good, nothing wrong with panel gaps. I'm actually struggling to find what it is that's wrong with it(looks and price tag aside).

Went for the blue, black interior and 19" wheels.

I'm quite surprised to be honest. Have they increased material quality and finish? Is it the Chinese built ones only?

I mean you were the resident expert telling everyone on here how bad they were, so surely you would know?
