We do need to start planing the retraining for all the motor mechanics as there will be far too many in the future given EVs need so little servicing

Does anyone know of failed EV motors that have had to be replaced ?

I don't see that as an issue. The existing mechanics can live out the rest of their careers maintaining current and then ageing ICE cars for at least the next 20 years. This that aren't ready to retire at that point will transition to EV repair.

It'll just mean that we'll need less mechanics in the future so less will go down that route post education. As has happened with endless other career choices that were once very popular and now not so much.

As for EV motor repair... I haven't heard of a failure personally, but no reason we should focus on the motor - EVs still have the electrical complexity of all modern cars which leads to problems to fix! Also mechanical items such as suspension still wear and brake pads and discs too, albeit the brakes tend to last 3-4 times longer than ICE

Do we? Are all the millions of ICE cars going to evaporate tomorrow? Are parents not going to have the brains to point out to their children the foolhardiness of become an exhaust replacer? Are youngsters so thick as to not have heard that EVs are going to replace ICE over the next thirty years?

smile

It is odd that someone would point to a machine becoming more reliable as a problem rofl

I suppose we could go back to valves so radio repairers can continue their job of work too.... confused

It is good news that the ICE drivers or those who use public transport are reducing the tax breaks for those buying brand new EVs.

I think its good to reduce it. Its amazing how loads of cars have prices reduced when this happens.

They haven't. The Govt has just done what it said it would do which is to wean manufacturers off tax breaks as EVs become more affordable. Don't forget that, to date, the typical EV users will have been among the higher tax payers as opposed to others who are likely to be life long recipients of tax spend.
