What constitutes an SUV these days?
Nothing about this is "SUV" to me.

I quite like it, at least it doesn't have one of those horrendously unnecessary grills.
Sorry you're right, I clicked on the Verge link which showed this:

The one on the left is definitely an SUV. They are both very boring however.

Electric cars and autonomous cars are an open market for new entrants and we will see some traditional car companies fail and some consumer tech companies succeed.

I actually like the look of that car and the interior is what a modern car interior is going to be and there is no stopping that

I just realised it's got wing cameras instead of mirrors. I very much approve of that! Not least because it irritates the old farts around here for reasons they can't seem to justify whistle

Why have you said "Sony is releasing a car" when Sony have not committed to releasing a car?

They did a concept last year, and one this year. And are setting up a division to explore further. But like Dyson, they may decide the market is just too competitive.

I remember the mockery when Sony decided to take on the likes of Sega and Nintendo with their poxy games console. Stick to making Walkman we all laughed...

I'm interested to see how this turns out smile
I remember when Sony introduced DRM to their CD's in the 90s, I wonder if their vehicles will only travel on roads that have rights management, we will laugh.....

Yep the displays for the wing mirrors are at the end of the dashboard the same as the Honda E

Hmm so will we see the Sony Bravia up against the Fiat Brava in the next Autoexpress head to head?

Looks like every other sporty EV concept but that says it all really, cars are becoming appliances so no surprise Sony with the might in consumer electronics getting involved.

Given how the Koreans are overtaking the Japanese now with stuff coming out of Kia and Hyundai I wouldn’t be surprised to see Samsung and LG popping up too. Not sure I’d want a Samsung EV though, a battery fire in that would be worse than a smartphone…

They gonna put PlayStation 6 in that motherfker.

Grand theft auto six will come bundled with it and be exclusive to the car.

A VR headset will drop down from the headlining.

Sony already do good ICE so will be great music too.

Imagine the subscription service they could package with that thing? And the options pack too? Wow, the upsell on that could be insane! You would have to be a big Sony fan, but still wow.

Subscription for online games, streaming games from the cloud, access to Sony music library, 5G bandwidth (though I think Sony are out of the handset game now), VR, access to Sony studios film and TV content and not forgetting that they have ownership of a streaming TV service too! And then there is the premium audio option, upgraded speakers and screens and multi-media for the rear passengers in UHD 4K screens with a blueray player!.... yikes!

Maybe they have something after all. Its not in the car, its in the add-on options and services they can push on each customer. Who needs to sell a lot of cars when you can stitch them up on month-by-month subscription charges on top!

Which is an excellent idea. Cheaper if one gets knocked off too!

Agreed, It amazes me when you look at how complex todays cars are that they still use a mirror stuck on with a stick on the outside and a mirror stuck to the windscreen inside. Surely there is a more modern way of cleaning the windscreen too

Apparently a replacement wing mirror for my car is about £1000, because:

-Puddle light
-Surround Camera
-Heated
-Power adjust
-Power fold
-Blind spot light
-Integrated turn signal
-And it has a mirror too

Whereas the camera on a little stalk is way less likely to get knocked in the first place, and other than a tiny heater coil as part of the camera lens itself, doesn't need any of the other stuff other than puddle light I guess. Other than that, it can achieve everything my stupidly expensive mirrors can.

I used to work with someone who absolutely believed that the added complexity that was added to modern mirrors was a conspiracy by the manufacturers to up the costs of parts. As a joke, it makes sense, but he absolutely believed it! And only 1000GBP for a replacement mirror? Just took a look a couple of cars I have had and I am looking at around 1500! Something like 900 for the body, 300 for the 'special mirror glass' and a another 300 for the camera - and then you have to add fitting etc... madness.

Wow.

I hope your username isn't a reference as to how many times you've had to pay for a new one... smile

I think the much lower profile just makes a LOT more unlikely to be knocked off anyway.
We should make them retractable, so they retract in the dashboard biggrin.
