My wife has an I-Pace and really likes it. It does all the things she wants in a car. It’s luxurious, looks well, it’s sporty, is easy to drive, is magically charged (by me) whenever it’s needed, has plenty of space for family stuff, and with a small environmental footprint.

I’m very impressed with how it drives down a b-road just like The Deuce says. It is strangely enjoyable. But… is it really fun? I can’t really get my head around it. It’s not boring either. Impressive is maybe the word. To me the I-Pace and cars like it are in fact the EV sweet spot. Let’s call them very well specced SUVs with a lot of poke. I had a quick glance at an iX yesterday and it’s smack bang in this territory also and makes a lot of sense to me.

In contrast, I’m not sure about the Taycan. I’m sure it drives a bit better than the I-Pace but is that really going to change anything? A bit faster here and there, big whoopie. In a car like that I think I expect more than just shove and grip. That’s not to say that I won’t write glowingly about a Taycan Sport Turismo another week but then I think we’re back to the luxurious fast family lugger type format with a bit of sportiness on top.
I think we hold the same view on the ipace then - and 'impressive' is a great word to describe why I enjoy the car.

I can enjoy being impressed by a car as much as I can enjoy wrestling a slightly wayward or basic one. I can enjoy the smoothness and calm of EV as much as I can enjoy the character and soul of an ICE engine note.

Like you, I do genuinely have some fun pushing the IPace down a b-road, probably more than most would believe from such a car. It's definitely not as much fun as a traditional and focused sports car... But then it's not a sportscar. When they do get round to making lighter, sports focused EV's, they'll still feel very different to traditional ICE equivalents but in their own way, I think they could be a lot of fun.

I’m seeing a lot of I-paces around these days. I think the newer models look better than the early ones too.

Jaguar have said they are no longer going to release any new models until 2025 when they will release 3 more electric vehicles

I guess that does not mean the won't continue to update the current models as some competitors newer releases proved better/charging options such is the pace of the market.

Yes that’s my understanding as well. If anything there could be more updates as they are clearly completely focused on electric now.

They don't seem to be doing that well in recent times, sales of i-Pace cars have been declining (these are global figures)

Jaguar I-PACE sales:

2018: 6,893
2019: 17,355
2020: 16,457
2021: 9,970
2022 H1: 4,189

Any idea what the delivery time is on a ipace currently? I'm starting to think about what to get when the lease on mine ends and may just opt for another one. It's been an excellent experience.

I would expect they have a big supply chain challenge like most manufacturers do these days.

I'm thinking the exact same - 6 months of lease left and I still haven't found another EV that I like as much overall.

The local dealer said 6 months lead time, that was a couple of weeks ago.

As for declining sales, that does tend to happen as models age, even with a mid life refresh - for JLR it's been a very successful product, all Jags are relatively low volume as Jaguar is actually a very small car manufacturer compared to most others. I can only assume the majority were sold in the UK because I too see them with alarming frequency these days. The newer 'black' edition cars look fantastic

By May 2022 there were more than 7000 Jaguar I-Pace sold new here in Norway. They are a common sight on Norwegian roads.
