Any one had any experience with the electric XC40 or C40? I’m considering the dual motor XC40 as the family car, the XC40 Recharge Plus is £699 a month 12k miles one month deposit.

The XC40 is genuinely one of the most surprising EVs I’ve ever tested. Great car.

Absolutely love ours (dual motor XC40). There are a few of us on here with them now.

It’s on my shortlist for my co car, probably between one of these and a Tesla m3. Getting an xc40 for a couple of days at the end of the month to try to decide

Just (last Friday) got a C40 for my wife. Too soon for any firm conclusions but she really likes it. And it’s smoother and quieter than my ipace (which is going back next month)

Not sure if the link will work, but they reviewed one on ‘The Motoring Podcast’ recently. Really liked it, but real world efficiency was poor (accepting the rest was conducted in pretty cold conditions) and if memory serves, they were getting sub 2 miles/kWh

Not massively efficient, however they are a lovely car and have a nice interior.

They feel bloody quick as well. I preferred my Polestar (just) as it has a bigger screen inside and I prefer the styling.

With regards to the C40 I don't see the point of it myself as it seems an awkward half way house... Either get the Polestar or the XC40.

Couple of pics of the XC I had as a loaner

Only had 6 days but by yesterday evening total was 174 miles. My wife was worried she might not make it home via a friend’s yesterday with 70 miles range for about 45-50 miles. She went the shortest route and drove gently and got home with 50 miles range and 20% left. I can see there is potentially for rubbish efficiency but gentle driving gets much better results than the ipace - though still very early days

Thanks all, it sounds great as we're after something comfortable, good quality and has a bit of poke.

20% and 50miles would suggest a normal range of 250miles (?) which is sufficient for us.

That was my wife trying quite hard on the last journey before it though and after six days it’s a bit early to say! Not sure it would manage that on the motorway

My wife thinks it’s more comfy than the ipace

It'll be interesting to see how efficient it is on the motorway, not sure I could sit on the motorway at 60mph to drag out a few extra miles.

250 is slightly optimistic I would say unless its just around town and none motorway use.

I get about 230/240 summer and 200/210 winter in my Polestar if I charged to 100% with mixed driving, however I only do that for long trips and normally charge to 90%

It's only at 85+ it starts to get thirsty.

At 90mph mine was pulling 48.5 kwh per 100 miles when it was decent weather which would give 155 miles of range. Its worth noting the speedo is bloody accurate so what it says is basically the GPS speed.

Ours (leased) landed last week. Its rapid, but in honesty it doesn't feel as 'special' as I would expect a £57k car to, and the EV functionality seems a bit limited.
I know there is an EV premium but beyond the pace I suspect its behind competitors in terms of interior quality.
No Apple Carplay either - seems ridiculous given the XC40 it replaced had that.

We’ve had ours now for 8 months and only used a public charger twice; typical week with the wife’s commute of 16 miles per day, 2 days a week, plus a few of my trips to work and back (8 mile round trip), plus local stuff at weekends and we don’t need to charge it often of course.

We’ve done a number of reasonably longish trips South Coast - Suffolk (154 miles each way) and Oxfordshire (100 miles each way). I charged back up to 80% on the A34 going up just in case but worked out that we’d have done the 200 miles or so and had c. 20% left when we got back. Driven around 65-70mph it’s pretty efficient but obviously 80+ I would imagine it’s less so (never driven that fast before of course). We’ll be doing a Cornwall run in May so it’ll be interesting to see how that works out.

Infotainment screens don't really seem to tell you much about state of charge and usage, the Volvo app just shows you charge percentage (albeit I've only glanced at that as its on my other halfs phone)

There is a display that you can go to in central
Screen that shows that sort of info but the app is a bit feeble. No record of past trips like the ipace app has for example
