Hi. Am asking these questions on behalf of a friend who has a new Mach-E on order.
He received an email this morning from FordEurope to say his car has been completed and is on it's way.
He had been told a few weeks before that it would be at the dealership on the 17th June. What is the normal shipping time from the plant in Mexico to the UK?
He also received an email from Ford to make him aware of charging cable thefts which he's a bit concerned about. Wouldn't the cable plug and socket lock together for charging? Security advise greatly appreciated in advance...
Many thanks.

Not sure on the shipping times but the cable thefts was on the news not long back.

Some chargers won’t lock the cable in place so while it might be locked to the car if the car is locked it will be loose the other end. Quite a few people, certainly by me, seem to leave their cables at home on the charger when they aren’t in use despite it not being a tethered charger so someone could just go up and take the cable.

I have one on order due in June.

You can check ford stock on the ford uk website. Some cars are on 32 weeks delivery I managed to find one in delivery 8-12 weeks

Does your friend have the Vin number ? if so visit
www.whereismymme.com.

Also ask your questions on the uk Mach e forum.

Found the Mach-e owner manual here:

https://www.fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/Ca...

Some useful information in there - though not sure it answers your question. As previously mentioned though, I think that most chargers will lock into place and will be difficult to remove if the vehicle is actually locked too. Our i3 will lock the BMW charger in place, so you cant remove it. However, we have an L2 charger that is not the official BMW one and you can remove it even when the car is locked, because it lacks the locking part. Not an issue, as my driveway is away from the road and there is no way to tell its there.

I am also fortune enough to have a large driveway so the charger is in the garage and the cable runs to the outside. Best case, they would have to cut it, which I am hoping that the average criminal isnt stupid enough to do! It is a concern though and from what I have seen, pretty much all of the waterproof chargers come with security bolts to prevent removal anyway

Thanks for the answers guys.

Yes, he got the VIN no. a few weeks back and has checked out the forum - I'll mention the owners manual to him, then he should have all the details he needs.
I think he originally ordered his back in November last year - Expected date given then was Mid-July, but recently it was brought forward by a month.

A friend got his a couple of weeks ago, the extended range. Looks a great car, the interior looks like a pleasant place to be and is full of nice features. He'd only done about 100 miles at that point so was still getting used to it.

He did say he'd had to get a mod for the charging port door, otherwise it moves out too far when open and contacts the paint

Just saw one of these on a documentary - that screen in the centre of the dashboard. My word, hideous and what a distraction!

You found it distracting just watching it on a documentary?

Yes, it seemed to dominate the TV screen, may be a perspective thing but it looked too intrusive into the cabin

My wife got one in February after a 6 month wait.

She loves it, it's definitely fast, but soulless. A great daily driver though.

To answer the main question, the cable locks in place if you lock the car. I found this out after trying to remove it when the car was locked.

Don't believe everything in the manual though. Unlock as you walk towards it works, but the walkway lock isn't implemented in the UK afaics, so you have to get the key out at your destination action anyway.

Phone as key doesn't appear as an option either.

As for the massive screen, you get used to it, but the most annoying bit is having to be accurate when using it, so turning demister and heater on and off etc you have to hit the on screen button accurately, and changing temp etc brings up a slider which you have to try and use whilst driving and keeping your eye on the road.

Other stuff that's annoying is the Ford sync voice is supposed to link with android auto but doesn't, so if you hit the voice button on the wheel it has a complete different set of controls, if you want to use Google you have to hit the mic button on the screen

If anyone disagrees with the above I'd love to hear how you get the security and android auto to work as I think it should

This is another reason I like my Polestar so much, Google Assistant is flawless when it comes to voice controls, so it more-or-less takes the screen out of the equation when it comes to adjusting HVAC settings.

The thing I struggle with on the touch screen is ergonomics, on my wife’s XC40 it’s just a screen and there’s nowhere to rest my thumb to keep my hand in the right place on screen. My RRS had and my Taycan has screens that are recessed into the dash this providing a lip to perch my thumb - I find this makes a massive difference to keeping my digits in the right place to type/select.

It’s a bit like using a smart phone - holding it is far easier than laying it flat and trying to navigate it….

If I recall correctly they're shipped to the Netherlands then trucked over.

Took a few weeks, so June sounds reasonable

Managed to snag a Long range AWD in Stock today. A couple of cars about but mainly standard range RWD.

Found one GT that might come available. But think the AWD is the better choice

Nice one!

My mate bought the RWD model, but he changes his cars so often, he could well be in an AWD by early next year....! biggrin

Just got the latest on my mates Mach-E purchase, and it's basically stalled...

It arrived at Dagenham on or just before the 17th May. He has had 3 delivery dates given to him, and as of today still doesn't have the car. Dealer has just told him it will be next Saturday (12th June)
How can it be at Dagenham for such a long period of time, and not simply been brought up to Nottinghamshire for him?
I see a cancelation coming as he's fed up with this train of "no information".....!
