Just ordered a V2 77kW eboost, of all the smaller EV's we tried this one stood out well.
It is a pain heater control etc are touch but after our extended test drive it was quite easy to switch thing round.
The head-up display is by the far the best I've come across, the augmented reality is a bit of a gimmick but actually liked it.
Performance felt similar to a golf gti so plenty enough there, limited to 99 though but TBH its very rare to go above that ahah
Just looking like the end of the year for delivery!
What are you being quoted as estimated delivery? We're mid-Nov supposedly, but will believe it when we see it!

We did get a drive in one on Good Friday - very impressed. Perfectly decent performance, not sure I'd say quite as strong as a Golf GTi but certainly in the ball park for UK legal speeds. Very refined - both road noise and suspension noise were impressive and stood out as pleasant surprises - certainly a useful step up from my wife's current mk 7 golf and better than my e-class too. Overall very please / relieved with the choice!

What about the handling? I've seen people relax the traction control and get wheelspin and small tailslides before the traction control cuts back in! Have any of you guys experienced this?

Didn't try that as had my wife and the Cupra salesperson in the car, but I have not doubt there would be enough poke to get a bit of slip going on... it's only got 215 section tyres and they're efficiency biased so shouldn't be a problem to overcome the grip if you feel the need biggrin

I rather suspect many EVs are rushed out using components available rather than desired. The next round of EV are likely to be significantly better.

I rather lost with VW Group branding where does the Cupra fit and why does it exist. Is it and Audi or a Skoda I'm lost.

I'm not really sure that's the case with the ID.3/Born. The MEB is a completely new ground-up EV platform. I can't imagine it shares many components with a Golf for example. The only real advancements seem to be charging speed. Efficiency comes from aerodynamics and managing battery temperatures, and capacity determines that a car has bigger batteries and hence weighs more. I think all these people saying that EVs will improve dramatically in the next few years are going to be disappointed.

Cupra is to SEAT what Abarth is to FIAT. Quite why Cupra had to be spun off as a standalone brand rather than the trim level it was is beyond me.

Sorry, that's not how usability engineering works. That's Stockholm Syndrome.

Given that the only cars available in the uk are test drives (mine was accompanied) I doubt many have tried lol.

I've been told by the dealer that the factory in Ukraine is open and working again, so this wiring loom might not be far off now!

I sure that advertising says MEB all new ground up, but as you can image it's comes from the MQB platform with the changes needed for EV. The basics of suspension design has not changed fundamentally from the days of the beetle, lt's simply got a lot better. VW is one of the leader exponents of modular design unlike others for example Tesla. To make it cost effective they licence it out to ford and all their related companies can use it easily.

Must say, I do like the look of the Born, bit irritating that the 77kW is a 4 seater only though.
yea that played into the decision making but TBH we're coming from a mini as a second car and although thats stated as 5 seats in reality its 4

"Probably Christmas" was the line from the dealer, but I'm expecting later than that, but would of thought a new model they would want to get models out there

yup, we did get an un accompanied test drive for about 2 hrs so got to play with lots of features, it was dry so only managed a small amount of slip before it was brought back inline even with the TCS off. the wet may be different but suspect its a well tuned system to prevent "Fun"

Yes, I suspect Cupra have pushed in when it comes to the Zwickau queue with the Born, pushing some ID3, Q4s etc back. I've got an order in for a Q4 since the end of Jan and I suspect that will arrive after my wife's Born despite her putting her order in nearly 3 months later.

I agree with all the infotainment comments. Just chopped my Formentor in for a 335 Touring because I hated it. Shockingly done, laggy, "features" only work when they want to, just really crap. Enough to put me off VWs for the foreseeable.

iDrive in the 335 however is great.

Most of VAGs wiring looms were built in Ukraine

Depends what's currently in stock and where and when they can setup an alternative supply.

I've done 11,000 miles in mine and they're still rubbish. Several prods at a screen to change fan speed or temperature at night as you can't see the rubbish sliders is just daft.

Do neither of you use the voice controls?

We are on the brink of ordering one, once the accountant explains to my wife how her ltd company should fund it.

We have had an EV coming up 3 years now, started in an i3 from EVEZY/ONTO before they asked for it back and now in an ID3, with ONTO hiking the prices in a few months its no longer great value.

Test drove a 58KW V3 Born at the weekend and its drive and handling far surpass the ID3 which is floaty and gets tied up in knots on a bumpy B road, the Born was composed and a far better steer with far less understeer when pushing on.

We are likely ordering the 77KW V3.
