Hopefully affected manufacturers will drop their prices by £1,500.
More like add cost and the features they dropped to make it qualify for the grant

Unlikely that manufacturers are going to drop their prices. OEMs like Renault already expect a 300K+ reduction in production due to supply issues, same for all other automakers. They are also starting to focus on Premium cars (like Mercedes with their Economics of Desire rebranding and VW slashing cheaper models).

As been said the demand is just outstripping demand by too much.

Timing. Just sold Tesla (replaced by a 3.3 litre twin turbo V6 petrol - no demise of ice here just yet), and we were looking at Fiat 500 'lectrics this week as a company purchase. Looks like a slightly used small EV will be more sensible, but even those are crazy money - Honda e, Fiat etc.
Hopefully they'll spend the grant money on improving infrastructure instead.

Even at elevated prices, historically manufacturers lost money on EVs. They were keen to make their EV market presence felt whilst keeping sales low.

Assume that EV profitability problem has been largely overcome now? scratchchin
