I think it is just the fear of the unknown. I have an EV and am totally in favour of them but I'm off to Headlingley for the cricket next week (110 miles each way) and I'm thinking of taking the Porsche as I'd need to top up on the way back and I'm worried about the availability of charging. I guess it shows that having had an EV for 18 months I've only had to charge away from home once.
I was like that the first couple of long distance trips. But along any lengthy journey there are so many public chargers these days, even a half hour at a common as muck 50kw charger would gift you another 60+ miles range.
Well I did it! 125 miles to Leeds at 5 miles per kwh, arriving with 60 miles left. 40 minutes at Ferrybridge on the way back for some food and a charge and straight home. Don't know what I was worried about tbh.
Good! Its not a hardship at all for the odd longer drive is it?

Better than a weekly pilgrimage to the petrol station!

Absolutely, especially considering that I would have been stopping for food anyway so it didn't cost me any time. In fact with better research I could have probably found a charger with better food on hand but there we go!

On longer trips we sometimes stop at interesting towns with chargers for a lunch break. Very often the charger bays in the car parks are in the best places and quite often free if you're charging. In York last year we were able to park near the river and a few minutes walk from a lovely restaurant on the riverbank. It was a better experience than pulling into a BP!

It just doesn't seem worth the cost. You pay more for it, it degrades your battery faster (although I guess people on lease or PCP often don't care), and you end up saving small amounts of time you could have used to do something pleasant anyway.

Road warriors only I think.

Part time job is typically around 250 miles per day. But it can be longer. Longest so far are 632 and 750 miles.
When I reached that point in my professional life, I considered myself a professional driver.
That said, as above, most Tesla's will quite happily do that.

Despite my reservations, I would lease an EV in a flash when they become competitively priced. But for now, leased ICE fits the bill...
If you're spending well over 15 000 GBP/year on diesel, I don't see how you an ICE can even be competitive...

Your remark about 30 minute charging for 60 mile range. 60mph average is not unreasonable even today...
I also don't know why he stated a 50kW charger, anything below 100kW is not for travel imho. 150kW gives you easily 3h of driving for every 30 min break.
And again, I used to have to fill up every day/every other day for a while. Now in the EV I can cover 50 000km/year without ever having to stop for a charge.
