The inevitable time has arrived, we are looking at getting our 2nd EV - they are both large capacity (64 & 78kw) so need a decent amount of charging.

Planning on charging overnight so need a second 7kw charger.

House has a 100amp fuse, single phase.

My rushed math suggests 2x32amp running while the house is 'sleeping' should be doable ?

We only intend to run them at night and given their capacity a load balanced type dual charger isn't really suitable as they'll both need 8+ hrs @ 7kw

Anything else my little non electrician brain needs to consider ?

To ask a daft question, will you drain both every day? If you can get a couple of days out of both you don't really need the 2nd charger.

You'll be a bit close having two chargers. But I'm sure a spark will be along shortly with better info than me.

Overnight 64A is doable as you’ll hardly be using anything else. Just have them off charge before you start having showers and cooking if electric.

We both have a heavy commute at the moment and i want to future proof, don't want to have to 'wait' for one to finish, moving cars around after 4 hours etc.

Want us both to be able to come home, plug in and forget about it.

Luckily our shower is fed from the combi so the digital side of the shower runs off a 5v adaptor biggrin

I ha\e the same, 100amp fuse and decided to have one charger set as 16, one as 32.

Just to be safe. Has worked fine with our usage.

Speaking from experience I'd advise you get the new (2nd) charger to have load balancing anyway. That way you don't need to think about approaching your current limit if you use lots of electrical appliances at night (but then I have 2 washers, 2 dryers, a dishwasher and a 3-phase professional oven and several refrigerators and freezers) and blow the fuse about once a year when I forgot to turn down the charge rate on the car.

We've got 2 x EVs and after moving house decided to get a pair of 7kW MyEnergi Zappis. These use a hub, with a clamp that monitors the house consumption and then throttles the chargers as needed, and with the ability to prioritise one charger over another. This works well for us in combination with an Intelligent Octopus tariff. We may add solar at some point, which the Zappis will work well with.

That sounds the perfect setup. Especially given that when one car is fully charged at some point in the early hours, the load can increase on the other charger - if the house board is a bit stretched at the time. Unlikely but it covers all bases.
