Just bought a brand-new Cupra born, electric car.......
.....Again, I feel this makes me an early adopter and this makes me slightly uneasy.
Your new EV almost certainly charges faster and has more range than our now 5.5 year old EV with 50k+ miles of battery degredation......Again, I feel this makes me an early adopter and this makes me slightly uneasy.
We are currently 1500 miles into a pan European road trip with 6 people + their luggage that started in Syston. I've been up and down this stretch of tramac half a dozen times at silly hours in our EV in the last few days, long story short, there is nothing to feel uneasy about owing an EV in 2022 .

It really is. I only bought my leaf for a regular journey from Shropshire to Birmingham to dip my toe whilst not risking anything as I kept my other cars. I knew the leaf I have (mk2) has a fast charging system that will be obsolete at some point and battery tech that is relatively in-advanced now in that it doesn't have battery conditioning but that didn't matter as I was only intending to use it for one known journey. This week however I've taken it from Shropshire into the Brecon Beacons for a family holiday as the cab conditioning is ace for the dog. I did my first fast charge which was around 17 minutes while I bought a drink and had a pee. The whole thing was completely uneventful and easy and that was in a car that's probably one of the least well equipped for long journeys on sale.
I'm sure you'll love it. The Cupra Born looks a lovely car.
Not meaning to derail the OP's thread. I was looking at chopping in my A45 to go electric. Short commute and rarely get to use any of my cars performance.I'm sure you'll love it. The Cupra Born looks a lovely car.
So, is the leaf any good? I have a small budget, (£20'ish k) and the leaf, i3 or zoe is popping up, i'm not having a zoe, the wife doesn't like the i3, but i'm just not sure if i could cope with the 'downgrade' from the a45 to a Leaf???
Well done to the OP though, I do like the Cupra Born, nice car

get your wife to drive the i3.
She'll change her mind pretty quick :-)
Aye! A year in almost to the day, and my wife - who has been subjected to a lot of my cars during our 14 year marriage - loves the Ovlov more than any of them. She'll change her mind pretty quick :-)
My thoughts are as a daily (albeit for her a 14 mile round trip) a BEV is an absolute no brainer. A 90% charge normally lasts at least 2 weeks and costs about £6. The thing is so comfortable, hugely rapid and well specced, and I get to put it through my Ltd for peanuts. Ok that won't last for ever, but I'm not going back to ICE for a daily again.
For my commute - 3 miles each way 2 days a week - I've been relegated to my 2005 350 SL snotter.

I bought an S Class last year and whilst there’s obviously no comparison it does shock me to get into the S Class and think it’s loud now the ev has conditioned me!
There was just about the worst car review I’ve ever read in the Sunday Times on 10 July. The journalist had bought an iPace and grumbled about range, charging facilities and didn’t realise it wouldn’t just charge from a domestic plug socket.
Didn’t do his homework and blamed the car.

Thanks guys, all this reads extremely positively! Yes the infrastructure appears to be growing extremely fast now, and that is very reassuring. The range has an official 259 miles, so call it 200 in the real world.
This suits us just fine, however on the few occasions where we might want to go to the seaside in the UK, this was the only time I may have range anxiety as we talking 85 miles each way. Not an issue charging when we get there, and I’ve noticed plenty of options to do just that.
So yes, I think that once we get used to it we’ll never want to go back to an internal combustion engine!

85 miles each way should be easy if driven with a modicum of care. I can get 170 miles out of my i3 and that has only a 38 kWh battery......bad company said:

Probably just writing what they think that the readership wants to hear. I used to buy the Sunday Times every week, but it seems to have taken a huge lurch downmarket in the last few years.Didn’t do his homework and blamed the car.

Early adoption covers up to 13.5% on Rogers' bell curve. 11.6% of cars in the UK are electric.
So yes, he probably is being serious.
For new sales maybe, it's around 16% of new cars so far this year.So yes, he probably is being serious.
The Rogers bell curve has 13.5% of the total as early adopters, but there's 2.5% innovators before that so you could argue for new car sales we're just tipping into early majority for new car buyers.
Battery EVs have only just passed 500k sales in the UK though. There's around 32 million cars on the road, so more like 1.5% of the total pool.
Even for all plug-in cars (PHEVs, etc) it's under 3% of the total.
Regardless, enjoy the Cupra. I tried the ID3 last year but I think the Cupra is a nicer package and better prospect at current pricing.
