Picked it up yesterday afternoon, first impressions it feels massive coming from a 330e touring, I was thinking it wasn't going to be a techy as the Model Y I test drove but I was wrong it hides the tech in a layer of familiarity of BMWness.

Driving home on the motorway it basically drove itself and the augmented sat nav is brilliant.

It's comfy, great over potholes and instantly quick without being stupid like the Tesla.

I was a bit disappointed that the stock car I chose didn't come with a heated steering wheel but found out last night it's available in the connected drive store for £200, which is £30 less than if you specced it, result!

Nice smile
I opted for the heated wheel - good to know you can add it later

I assume the heated wheel option also includes the heated panels in the arm rests.

I've found this setup along with its automatic control very effective indeed.

No it doesn't.
The heated panels are only part of the Comfort Plus Pack

The ride quality in these, even on the non-air poverty spec ones, is cracking.

tbf in both the IX and i4 we've found the automatic heating incl heated seats, and steering wheel in the IX, to be excellent. Also a big fan of the button on the key fob which acitivates the climate control remotely - without needing to open the BMW app. The cars heat up in minutes, to the point that the heated seats etc, whilst nice to have, are almost redundant really, if the whole car is pre-warmed rapidly then the seats, steering wheel etc are all also pretty warm.

I only found out the other day what that button did! I actually have set a schedule for the car Monday-Friday to be nice and cosy for 8am for the school drop which is brilliant. The button will be useful for the weekends smile

It took me a while to realise too....

Game changer! I reckon a few other manufacturers will have realised they missed a trick..

Wait, what? A button to preheat?

I've been using the app...

You can also change the assignment of that diamond button to a few other functions, in the car, somewhere in key management settings.

I haven't actually used it to heat the car but it does seem like a good idea.

I'm really enjoying mine. Got the wife driving it this morning for the first time, and it's the only car she's driven other than her Mini EV. I thought she did very well getting to grips with it. Granted I was helping her but overall controls, driving position etc. all came very intuitively to her. Other than needing to drive it in B because she's used to full regen on lift off.

Quick question, did your car come with the rolled up cargo net in the lift up section of the boot floor?

Also I didn't get given the BMW charge card?

Not sure about the net.
I applied for the card from the website : https://bmw-public-charging.com/web/en/bmw-gb

Indeed you setup the account and they post you a card

You can always trigger a charge from the app before it arrives

I’ve been using the same scheme under Audi, then Mini and now just signed up the BMW contract to redeem the 12 months subscription credit against ionity plus

The Ionity discounted rate as just doubled though.

One month of ownership today and I thought I would come back here and feedback for anyone who is on the fence. EV aside in 25 years of driving is the best car I have ever driven. Ride quality and all of the design, space and features are simply perfect. Everything just works and there is so much tech to use and once you get used to it all its masterful. As a Octopus Intelligent user the car charges for 7.5p KW so that's a full charge for around £6. They just enabled Vimeo and ARConsole so you can play games while charging on the last OTA update. In terms of my man maths paying off I did a journey on efficient mode yesterday which was 28 miles and the car told me that the 8.5kw used cost just 64p! I will be a very happy owner for the next 3 years and look forward to how BMW evolve this car and the rest of their EV range. I understand there are issues with charging infra for many people on for longer trips (rare for myself) but right now this works for us as premium family size SUV.

I had a couple of drives in the iX and loved the thing. So serene and relaxing to drive. We do 18k PA and mostly long drives to Cumbria from Bucks. Just couldn’t chance the public network and therefore grabbed a MY LR for this next 3yrs. I’ll return to consider one again in the future.

Agree mate Tesla wins on that basis for long runs as the supercharger network is a massive win. With my personal mileage and just local driving at around just 4k miles a year this works for me. The Model Y is still a great car but the IX has that little luxury touch expected from BMW.

I read good analogy before that Tesla is a car brand by a tech company learning the market and the BMW is an experienced car company using the latest tech they see Tesla implement. On this basis it is good they are pushing each other to build better products for the consumer.
