Surely the fact that the vast majority of the vehices mass is positioned as low as possible and within the wheelbase must count for something in comparison though I'd imagine?

Yes, there is a weight penalty but the difference is far less in a large EV SUV compared to a more normal car. As an example an Audi SQ7 weighs 2400KG, an etron 55 2600KG so < 10%. BMW M440i X-Drive 1800KG, BMW i4 M50 2300KG or almost 30% more.
