MG Cyberster ?
If you look past the recent concept (and Chinese human rights), it will look something similar to this. Will look great in a bold colour
Looks like they haven't bothered too much with the design element, MGF with new headlights and bonnet springs to mind.
I guess the old MGF had many flaws, but how it looked probably wasn't one. I guess they're trying to evoke the roadsters of old that people think about when you mention MG. Probably end up looking nothing like the render hehe

apart from being a 4 seater, what about this?

If you're adamant on 2 seaters, you're probably best waiting for the MX-5 NE (probably) which will presumably be hybrid/electric.
I had no idea this existed! Seems odd that you don't get it on the continent....

OP, this is the very car you described in you post, sure with two additional backseats, but imho this suits a cabriolet very well.
aren't they only mild hybrids?
Plug-in hybrid with a 35 mile range I think.

Wife currently has an A5 cabriolet, if there was an electric equivalent we'd look at getting one but the only electric cars with a fold down roof are crazy quick/expensive or Chinese

Though maybe we'll get an electric Mini convertible in 2025...

With the MG - the problem is that it is going to be a £100k plus car
Where do you get that idea from? I thought the expectation was around £30k.
That would be nice but I bet it’s closer to 100k than 30k . .

It seems that the polestar and Tesla roadster are very powerful and very expensive. Can someone please build the following:
A 2 seater roadster with a battery or hybrid power train that does about 250 - 300 horsepower.
No crazy handling needed. No huge launch control / power etc needed.
It’s just for cruising around in summer ( sitting in traffic . .) so needs a decent stereo and a boot for shopping.
Am I completely out of touch ?
Surely a nice electric / hybrid open top car can be built and sold at a profit for under £60k?
Wouldn’t it be a massive hit ?
Why are there none available ?
I just don’t get it ?
Niche cars like your after are going to be a short while to market yet. Manufacturers are not even keeping pace with bread and butter cars.

Can't see a car with the platform and running gear from a EV hatchback that starts at £25k costing £100k. Reckon it will be much cheaper to try and bring a different car to the brand. No low budget brand would launch a £100k roadster. All of its potential upcoming rivals will be much cheaper.

There must be a few MGFs with a knackered K-series engine that are ripe for an EV conversion?

no huge power need but you want 300bhp?

for a top down cruiser the 150bhp of an entry level EV hatch would be plenty sufficient to see 60 in 7 seconds

Probably not to dissimilar to where the new MG will be placed

It does look a little better with colour:

They are the patent images, so should end up looking "pretty much like that".

I'll be honest, I quite like that, always had a soft spot for small roadsters, even if its not what PHer would consider a proper MG. I understand what people mean with regards to lack of engine/exhaust sound (I've owned some lovely sounding cars) To be honest, winding one down a country lane, or over the moors, or cruising along somewhere enjoying the roof down, I wouldn't mind.

its likely to be called the MGC and there are rumours of scissor doors and a digital dash. Likely to undercut its rivals too.

I'd like one of these if (a) it comes to the UK and (b) isn't a billion pounds smile

Might be worth putting your name name down with Porsche if the rumours are true...

Surely part of the appeal would also be a nice engine note.
Or no engine note at all... it's possible that that would appeal to some...
This. People on PH seem to think that an engine that makes a noise is in some way desirable - the rest of the world really don’t want to hear it. It’s like playing loud music in you’d garden
Yes, the vast majority of convertibles sold in the UK are totally ste sounding 4-cyl clatter boxes. They would provide an immeasurably better experience as EV’s. Only things were the engine noise is an experience enhancement is 6-cyl and up.

From a practical perspective, I’d imagine that making the body shell stiff enough to handle the weight of the battery might result in an overly heavy vehicle, and poor convertible aerodynamics would kill the range.
