Dis the Cupra dealer just happen to have an ID.3 or are VW Group EVs being maintained at some kind of all-brand service centre?
Not quite sure the exact situation as not been there yet, but I gather it's an all brand (VW, Seat, Cupra) service centre

So after nearly a three month wait, we had our time in the Cupra service dept. No fault found, No software to update, no recalls. So I had a few conversations describing the symptoms clearly.

1 the Born constantly calls the breakdown number on it's own accord accompanies by a repeated clicking that sounds like a button being pressed.
2 The internal light are intermittent and when 1 is happening the yellow warning symbol comes on to show that opening the doors will not put the internal lights on.

The good news is that so far over 4 or so journeys we've not made a single breakdown call!
The bad news is that eh internal overhead lights are not fixed and have a mind of their own as to what they are doing.

Sigh.

I mean it's trivial isn't it having to carry a torch to see inside the car at night if we need to? I mean such a small lack of functionality - but in a car that cost £45k FFS. The thing that really annoys me is that I get irrationally really annoyed about it biggrin

Yes there is and I had a look there. Seemed to be some instances of changing the SOS module.

The garage said there were no faults logged/found with I suggested that!

Been doing some more research and there are plenty of instances of the problem. Essentially the haptic buttons by the interior lights above the mirror press themselves frequently. So the spanner icon presses itself, makes the call, then cancels it with another press. Same with the interior light disable button. And sometimes they don't work at all.

So it's really strange that the service dept looked all shrugged shoulders and said dunno what the problem is guv, then gave me a car back with the fault still present!

I've explained this to them that the internet is their friend. Car is booked back in tomorrow. They said that they could pick it up and drop off a courtesy car which is lovely and they'd phone me back with the arrangements... still waiting. Got the ghastly "checkin" but no idea if they are coming or when.

I can only assume that they don't have those units to swap out otherwise they would have fixed it and it would have been much cheaper for them.

But what do I know??

Yes that's the same. Been reported on several cupras that share that tech

It's madness then that the garage denied to know anything about it, my car has had 3 or 4 recalls in the 2 1/2 years I have had it, the service desk had an absolute queue of cars awaiting them. I can understand why if it wasn't just Leons but other models too.
Agreed. I'm not sure they were being very honest with me!

So here we are, nearly a month on. After two visits to the dealer, they have now decided it's the control module up in that switch/light cluster and are waiting a replacement to be shipped from Spain as they are out of stock. This is after faffing for ages with the software. They thought it was fixed, took it for an extended test drive to the techies home and back and it wasn't.

So I think we are about 5 months in to reporting this problem. Maybe on the home straight now.

The positive aspect to this is that the dealer has been very good and they are now picking up and dropping the car back (for the last visit and the next when the part arrives). This must have cost the dealer a fortune in time and courtesy cars. I assume that they don't have to pick up the tab. This is probably why new cars are so expensive now!

I could be really annoyed that the internet told me months ago what the fault was, but hey ho, it's still a great car and the dealer is helpful.

I'm sure it'll be fixed soon.

From my point of view even though the problem we've got with the buttons pressing themselves is very irritating and getting it fixed is the same, the car overall is brilliant. I love driving it. It's super solid, very fast, drives extremely well. I certainly feel we made the right choice!

Well I love driving mine. No more issues since they fixed the control module problem.

If you mean the big battery (77 thingies?) then on a motorway journey at 70, 240 in winter and I suspect 300 in summer. A good chunk better if you don't exceed 50

They are undoubtedly a nice EV. We had a look at one but wanted the bigger 77kWh battery version to be able to do at least 200 miles in the Winter, but it only has 4 seats FFS!

For less than the 58kWh V1, we found a 87kWh Nissan Aryia Advance which, whilst an overly large and inefficient SUV, can at least seat 5...
Ah yes the 4 seat nonsense. We are ok with it fortunately. I assume there's a max gross weight limit for the platform
