I just found it ironic someone with Europa in their user name gushing over a 3 tonne behemoth. I think Irony isn't lost on EV heads, because they always catch it.

I think consumerism has dumbed down the thinking of the people in general, they want what is offered en masse, individuality is now on the back burner, following the latest trends is key. SUVs are about as dumbed down a car you can get.
Isn't the Eletre about 2.4T and not that dissimilar to many large engined ICE SUV equivalents.

I'd take the Taycan over the Macan GTS any day.

Plum, I'm a fan of good, minimalist, functional design, but I'm not blinkered. There's a big market for lardy SUVs, and surely if a company famous for losing money can get a slice of that pie and make a profit, why not? L
Last year on my daily commute, there was a top-spec. Range Rover in pride of place on their forecourt. Priced at £159950! Yes, people do buy those cars.

Also, virtually ell the obvious downsides with traditional SUV's are addressed and improved by BEV. The eletra is range rover sized yet corners nearly, doesn't roll or wallow and is genuinely supercar rapid. And you still get to keep the traditional SUV benefits of the high driving position and the luxury of space.

The reasons I have never desired an SUV basically evaporated when they started making a few decent electric ones.

what about a Yamaha R6? - available from around £2500 used - 0-60 in 3.1 seconds apparently.

Sounds dangerous.

been around for how long?

I just do not like big cars especially SUVs. I would still close the Taycan over the Macan EV when it arrives.

I'd actually like a smallish EV estate car.

Nearly ditto, I do not want and indeed refuse to get an SUV, Crossover or similar. An Estate would be my preference but there is precisely one Estate EV[1].

[1] While some may say it is, the Taycan Cross Turismo isn't an Estate[2]. Which leaves the MG 5 Estate. Nah. I'll pass thanks.
[2] More a hatchback and as it's raised from the standard Taycan surely its technically a crossover! vomit

There's an evolutionary aspect here though, people that crash bikes at high speed tend to only do it once.

The Taycan Turissmo would actually fulfil my needs but I'm not prepared to pay the Porsche premium cost, lovely car that it is. I currently run a Merc Hybrid C Class estate and would like an EV equivalent.

Indeed, while it doesn't fulfil my needs I could probably put up with one if I was given it! Similarly however if my own money I'm equally not prepared to pay the Porsche premium! Neither do I want an MG[1] which means there is precisely nothing to buy even if I really, really wanted an EV.

[1] Ignoring it being somewhat cheap, nasty, unreliable, poorly built (and not particularly safe to crash) with the range limitations of an EV it is also smaller, less practical, slower to 60 and doesn't drive as well compared to my current ICE Estate.

I'm content to wait until something similar to my C Class arrives. It's difficult to justify the expenditure in any case as I only do about 2500miles per annum now. The only issue with my current car is its a diesel hybrid i don't do many long runs.
