I don't think this is a car designed for 4x adults. If that's what you want, you'd be better off with an XC/C40.
It's frustrating, I expect they will sell loads of EX30 to people that don't use the rear seats but miss out on large numbers of other salesPerhaps it is deliberate to force you to buy an XC40 if you need just a bit more rear legroom?
VW are bringing out a polo sized car the id2 but with the interior space of a golf due to good packaging.
It will also undercut Volvo by maybe £5k-£10k as the base battery will be a bit smaller.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if VW manage to generate the same interior space as a Golf in a smaller package. You can't defy physics, after all.
They manage it with their Skoda sub brand, as well as in their own models, so have lots of experience - hopefully they will use it for the id2.Even a base model Polo has more rear knee room than a Toyota Corolla, and they are supposed to be different car groups. The Polo is 10 inches shorter too.
A Skoda Scala is based on a Polo but I had quite a bit more legroom in the back behind myself than my Golf. Length is only 2% longer in the Skoda.
Originally I was going to get a Skoda Octavia, but went with the Golf as the Octavia is actually way too big for my needs - giant boot and loads of rear seat space.

Well, if anyone's semi-interested, there are more cars based on that architecture: the Smart #1, Lynk & Co (Geely brand in China, may come to Europe) and maybe a small Merc.
Personally, I prefer the Smart from what I've seen, but top marks for the Geely stable to give us more 'normal-priced' EVs instead of fantasy lardmobiles that are too big for supermarket car parks.

With a skateboard chassis and single rear motor it should be relatively straightforward. Engines, gearboxes and associated ancillaries take up a hell of a lot of space in comparison. Shorten the bonnet, move the cabin forward, job done.Looks quite interesting, especially the base model pricing
Will be in the market for an EV soon, as a second car
The purchasing looks a bit different. Cash or Subscription , rather than PCP?
Will need to be cash here if no reasonable PCP is offered as would want to own at the end of it!

I've had three people I know irl ask me my opinion of this car since it was revealed - the price point has cleary got the masses very interested.
I think Volve have (somehow) just got this one bang on. They've finally sorted out the previously dull and honestly quite tacky feeling interior of the previous cars.. And it's a small SUV but still an SUV, box ticked. It's fast, it's affordable, it comes from a storied marque people trust - even if it is now kinda Chinese, as if the average Volvo buyer will look that deeply into the ownership side of things.
They're obviously going to shift a huge number of these cars - it's the right product at the right time at the right price with the right brand. Job jobbed I reckon.

Looks like they coated stuff with superglue and threw it at the dashboards.
I would agree and I wouldn’t have them either incidentally but they do at least have the driver info in front of the driver. That would be a basic must have requirement for me. or XC60

I also agree that the driver info should be behind the steering wheel instead of centre.. But I'm also aware that HUD (which is arguably even better in terms of placement) is rapidly growing in the car industry and is bound to become mandated in many countries which will mean every car will soon enough have HUD. I think the trend towards central screens with the 'option' for HUD is in anticipation of that likelihood.

I assume that small screen in front of the driver is for that?
Small, as in postage stamp small...It looks to be effectively smaller than a modern HUD typically delivers.
I don't think we can realistically claim that tiny screen alone is a suitable replacement for the traditional drivers layout of dials and info can we? It's more like a temp solution to give drivers 'something' in the sensible place for those that don't option the HUD.

If they can get 4x 6ft+ adults in comfort, c.400L of luggage space AND 250+ mile range, I'll buy one in a heartbeat.
Comments above suggest those 6ft adults might be tight for space in the rear?BUT…if you’re right, we might be interested.
Our Kona EV has appalling rear seat room…but we only have rear passengers for occasional shorter runs, so this is a contender for replacing that sometime. Currently on 45k miles and absolutely love it, so the next Kona could also be in the running. Liking the price possibilities for this though!

I just saw the Volvo online details for it. The rear seat cushion looks like it's sitting at 45°, like you're an astronaut ready for takeoff!
I'll reserve judgement until I see a few independent Road tests on the LFP version.
I quite like a reclining position!!I'll reserve judgement until I see a few independent Road tests on the LFP version.
Interesting comments dissing the XC40/60….my XC60 is the previous model, & likely to remain as chief load lugger (tip run, moving offspring between houses, ski run!)…..haven’t really sat in one of the newer ones they don’t look too bad to me, maybe real life is different?
I do hate the Tesla massive screen with zero buttons: quite like the easy reach to adjust temp with a knob rather than stabbing at a screen. The Kona strikes the balance well.
That Cross Country one looks rather nice, imho!

Official range under 200 puts me right off that. Personally, I prefer the Smart from what I've seen, but top marks for the Geely stable to give us more 'normal-priced' EVs instead of fantasy lardmobiles that are too big for supermarket car parks.
You can generally knock 20-30% off the official range for real world (esp winter) purposes. Our Kona officially is 279miles….we see 210 (winter) to 240 (summer), driven ‘normally’. Sure, there are Driving Miss Daisy’s who get 300, but I prefer to not hypermile and sit at 65-68 on motorways
