certainly seems to offer a whole helluva lot - especially if this can be sold at that price in the UK?

It won't average north of 5 miles per kWh so knock 2/5ths off the range claims straight off the bat.

Also atleast double the quoted price.

Not saying it'll be bad but it won't be that good. Looks like a Taycan rip-off in the way Chinese brands used to rip-off European brands.

How on earth are they getting a 435 mile range out of a 73kwh battery? Most 80kwh batteries struggle to hit 250 miles range.

The cheapest BYD Seal is 180,000 Yuan (about $25,000) in China, in the UK it's list price is £45,695 (nearly $58,000). Which probably explains why so few are being sold in Europe at the moment.

If they land it in the UK for £23700 on my drive I'll eat my hands and feet.

China still uses NEDC, that's how. smile

NEDC generally returns about a third more range than WLTP, and even WLTP is generally optimistic. I'd expect a WLTP range of around 320 miles and a real-world motorway range of maybe 250 in good weather, a little over 200 in cold weather.

I've not been a fan of the Chinese take over of the world (of EV) but I have to say, that looks good.

The MG4 starts at £18k in China and £28k here, so i guess we can expect a similar mark up on this, which would result in an entry price of something like £37k, which conveniently would make it just a bit cheaper than the Model-3. Realistically, to sell against the established Model-3 in the UK for just a couple of grand less, it's going to need to be appreciably better than it.

You’d be surprised how good looking modern Chinese cars are!

Check out Li Auto or Xpeng for example

I've seen it at their showroom in Shanghai last December and I must say that it looks really good, even the interior has a very premium look.
How it's actually put together and how it drives remain to be seen, but overall I have been positively impressed.

What are the performance specs compared to what would be a similar priced model 3?

It certainly 'looks' a bit more interesting than a model 3, although who knows how good it'll actually be.

They're both far faster than any "entry level family car" has any need to be. smile

The Xiaomi seems to be a bit more powerful and have a slightly bigger battery, but it also weighs a fair chunk more so probably swings and roundabouts really.

I thought BMWs were supposed to have massive grills because that's what the Chinese want?

That's simple - the Chinese mile and kilometre are almost half of our Imperial and SI units!
Seriously, we should all take figures with a pinch of salt until they're independently verified.

I think that's to display the wealth required to buy a European car given the heavy import duties. If you're Chinese and can afford to put a bimmer on the road, you want people to know about it.

A BMW XM in china is about $350,000... For that dollar, you want people to recognise the brand.
