Thanks, can you post the presentation again or let me know which thread it was on ? I did search but didn't find it.
Can't remember the thread, this document covers it though.https://www.nationalgrideso.com/document/283056/do...
The ideal scenario for 2050 is 'Leading the Way'.
All scenarios have multiple increases in wind capacity by then.

Thanks, that was the document I was thinking of. The shock, or one of them, is the significant reduction in total rail and road power. Some people, or groups of people, won't be driving cars as we know them now.
That's not the case at all Steve. The reduction in energy is due to the extremely efficient use of energy per mile that an EV can achieve.
Which is the fundamental reason why EVs are even a thing.
You know when someone says their EV is doing 3 or 4 miles per kWh, well that's 3 of 4 times better than an ICE averaging 40 mpg.
The EVs are averaging 120 to 160 mpg equivalent tank-to-wheel consumption.
Why?
Because an extremely efficient electric motor is providing the propulsion, rather than a highly inefficient engine.
And because the motor can reverse the flow of energy during braking to provide regen back to the battery.
This is all despite a marginal increase in kerb mass...
What the EV gives up in 'lightness' it makes up for in 'slipperiness' by virtue of not needing to pass lots of cooling air through the car for the engine's radiator or the brakes.
To bring this back on original topic, I parked in Westminster last week with my hybrid i3. The RingGo app has the wrong price for the car at £3.69 per hour when it should be £2.95. RingGo are aware of this but don't yet have a date for it to be fixed. They say they'll refund the difference if you ask.

Brilliant You can bet if the charge should be higher, they would magically be able to fix it overnight.
