For us it'll be an EV for the practical stuff and daily grind (10-15k a year of < 150 mile trips) as nothing better for that usage IME, and then something interesting for when I feel the urge for a fun drive or we have occasional longer road trips are planned.

A 2-3 year old iPace or etron 55 are the current favourites for the EV slot as offer ridiculous value for money at the minute IMHO and will cover all the required bases, and then something daft like an F-Type S/R, 997 S, V8 Vantage for the fun stuff. Should comfortably be able to get into good examples of both for around than the new price of a mid range Model 3 or Kia EV6 and the difference in depreciation will easily cover the increase in tax, insurance and extended warranty/maintenance.

As for me, my commute is fast rural motorway and A roads which is no good for battery cars.
Depends on the length of your commute? < 150 mile round trip and many EV's would be great for that purpose, and significantly cheaper to run than an equivalent ICE.

Wondering if anyone here has gone back to ICE? I'm pretty sure this time next year (when PCP is up) I will be.
I have one mate who's gone back to ICE after a 3LR. He hardly does any mileage and wanted his first Porsche.

I also have a 3LR and a convertible V8 for the summer. As a daily driver the Tesla is peerless in my experience - it handled a 160 mile commute into London with ease and I'm into my fourth year of trouble free ownership.

If I could only have one car? I'd be comfortable sticking with the Tesla, particularly as I do so little driving just for 'fun' apart from just a few days in the summer. I can't see any reason to switch back as a standard 4 door family ICE would be a bit dull in comparison.

Nope, sticking with EV. In fact selling the 997 to upgrade to a GT3 for track use as I don’t feel the desire to drive an ICE car on road anymore. Wife will be changing her Mini Countryman for a second EV this year.

I’m fully converted to EV. The only way I’d go back is if I lost my job and couldn’t afford to buy one. Even then, I’d seriously considering selling the TVR Ito fund one if I was forced to drop to one car only.

Have done a combined 34,000 miles across two EVs in our household (Born 18,000 since last March and ID3 16,000 since September). Just been complete with pain sailing - only had to use a rapid charger 3 times in all that mileage and that was painless now that there are so many of them scattered around.

But for me, main reason is I just like the instant response and precision of the drivetrain - just perfect for daily driving. For engagement I’ve got the TVR which with no ABS, traction control or safety features focuses you on the act of driving as a hobby.

I'll have had mine for 4 years at the end of the summer, and with PCP up I'll be getting another.

Our whole house now benefits from the EV, as the solar+batteries with IOG mean very cheap electricity bills for the house. Not just fuel bills to consider.

My other half however is likely to go back to ICE, not because she dislikes EVs, but just because with her Dad moving closer she only needs really local trips (think <5000 miles per year) and so she's hankering after an Abarth 695 or similar.

I would 100% go back to ICE if I could afford it (so many good ICE cars still to own).

But reality gets in the way. They are just so much cheaper to run as daily drivers.

Both the family cars are now BEV, but I still have an ICE for fun.

Another PCP or planning on buying used? I ask as current PCP/lease costs are on another planet compared to 4 years ago due to the obvious depreciation issues + high interest rates.

I’ve been thinking about this quite a bit over the last few weeks. I’ve had my e-golf nearly 6 years now and just approaching 85000 miles, so it’s well used.
When I bought it, I had a daily round trip commute of 70 miles which the golf handled well. I was always going the same way as other commuters, and the roads were busy. Driving the golf was easy and relaxed.
Two years ago, I switched jobs and although the daily mileage is much the same, I’m going against the flow and have quiet roads. A couple of months ago my wife’s car was off the road, and she borrowed the golf - meanwhile I used our 3rd car (ICE) as my daily for a month. I couldn’t believe how much I enjoyed driving it. All the sensations were alive. My golf had completely shut down my senses - no sound, no smell, no real feel to the driving and no buttons or switches - just touch screen distractions.
I’ve considered replacement EVs, but there is nothing that interests me, so I’m thinking of getting a fun ICE while I still can. If I don’t I’ll probably keep the golf and run it till it dies.
Re cost - yes the golf saved me a lot over my previous inefficient diesel, but I’m in a position where the enjoyment of driving is still a factor. I could eat cheaper than I do, but I choose to eat what I enjoy rather than the cheapest. Holidays too. And while I can enjoy the drive, paying a bit more to do so makes sense to me.
Sure, if I was caught up in the hustle of the commuter train I’d stick with EV. It’s horses for courses and there is no size fits all.
Similar (ish) story but an i3s for 5+ years. It's a bloody hoot to drive and love it. I can even switch on the Rex if I need a bit of noise wink

I still have an MR2 and do use it for client visits occasionally but mostly I prefer the EV as it's the better all rounder. Not as enjoyable to drive but still puts a smile on my face.

I've no plans to ever be without an EV but do plan to buy another ICE when I pass the MR2 on.

Yes, mental interest rates aren't helping either. I'm just biding my time at the moment, so not sure even which car let alone how to pay for it. I've got a monthly budget in mind so will just have to see what I can do for that. Current one is up in September so a few months yet.

I’m with you on the ‘so many good ICE cars to own’ but I find that daily driving an EV saves me enough in fuel to more than pay for the insurance, servicing etc in a now rotating list of bucket list ICE weekend cars, and them not having to double as frankly inferior daily drivers is a blessing.

We have 2 EVs and nor I or my wife plan to go back to ICE for day to day driving.

I think the choice also depends a lot on the driving conditions you get: my daily commute to work is 25 miles in total and I have to spend on average about 1 hour and a half in the car, unfortunately because the roads would also be fun to drive without traffic. In the last 5 years I've gone from manual to automatic to EV and the comfort of an EV in such conditions is absolute.

The occasional longer motorway business trips have never been an issue either: being stuck in 8th gear at 130 km/h with an ICE or at the same speed with an EV doesn't really make any noticeable difference.

As far as the range goes, I have to admit that my car has more range than my bladder, so I now recharge while I discharge and it works perfectly biggrin

I still have my old Clio RS in the garage, but it's been very rarely used: as others have written before I know that car in and out, I put it apart and back together a number of times, but while I don't plan to sell it, driving it doesn't bring that excitement it once did. Time is probably playing a part in it.

As I’ve mentioned on another thread, I’m thinking of selling my McLaren and my Lotus Emira to get one convertible car with four seats instead.

I’ll still have my Yaris, Range Rover, electric Smart and SL63.

I don’t think there’s anything electric that’s able to go on the list for consideration.

Portofino, Roma, S63, Continental, M8, there are quite a few fun options, but I can’t think of a single EV.

I'll never go back to ICE. It's last century's tech: noisy, dirty, wasteful, unsustainable, antisocial, stupidly inefficient and - for me - way too expensive to run. My wife just bought her own EV and she's never going back to ICE either. I have one ICE car left (a classic that I've owned for almost 30 years) which will be sold this year.

I've just gone back again from ICE to EV as my DD.

Much more pleasant place to be - smoother, faster, more modern.

Hoping to add an ICE fun car for the weekend at some point this year but for daily driver duties, happy to be back in an EV.

That's because there aren't any yet. An open top 4 seater EV will not be high on MMs list of must build cars for the time being. They will continue to focus on mass market designs and ensuring their dedicated EV platforms are optimised.

1 ICE, 1 EV works for us and I can't see that changing in the near future.

Nope, always liked how they drive, no worries about oil temperature and using the power from cold, and they pre-heat in the winter so way more convenient.

I think our next may be smaller and lower range for the daily runabout use, there's way more to choose from on the used market these days and no need to PCP or lease to get something decent.
