Some communication, like a warning letter sent out with camping tickets would have made sense.

Can see how it will annoy some who have bought cases of beer in bottles already though.

Just have to get cans instead, no great hardship really. What about wine though, that has be exempt.

they do sell cans in French supermarkets but very little of the beer on the shelves is in cans, say 10%.
the choice is pretty poor and if this ban continues then expect the cans to be gone unless Carre Four et al were prepared for this news?

IF you aren't there already and IF you are camping internally and IF this ban is official and IF it continues then buy your beer on route.
A lot of IFs I know. It's not ideal but we can adapt and overcome I'm sure. smile

Posting this from the TL campsite, stubby in hand. We were asked on arrival if we had any beer, but answering "No" saw us waved through. Your mileage may vary.

A few points I would like to make.

1. We will be taking what we like and concealing it. We are responsible people who enjoy a drink so whats wrong with us drinking a few bottles of wine ?

2. It will be virtually impossible to search all vehicles on thursday and friday. Chaos will ensue.

3. If the French want to be even bigger wkers than they already are, lets boycott the event next year and go the the Nurburgring 24 Hours instead. That will cost the ACO millions oin lost revenue.

4. If in doubt take boxed beer and cans. The French economy in the area will suffer due to thousands of lost beer sales. Buy in in the UK and take it with you.

OOh, thats interesting!
We're pretty scuppered then - full car already, and we'll be arriving long after the supermache runs out of tinnies.
Might have to come up with plan b!

Anybody know the situation on Houx Annexe? Although next to Houx, it's outside the circuit. Any info from anyone there would be appreciated.

UPDATE !!!!!!!!

A mate is in Houx and just sent me a text.

They had bottles of beer confiscated. They are not the sort of people who take well to that sort of thing and there were bad feelings............. Things may kick off a bit with other groups.

A bar has been set up in the campsite by the organisers (organisers HA !) They are charging, get this, eight euros yes €8 a pint. The Stella bars round the circuit are cheaper at €5 a go.

Perhaps the 'peak cap brigade' are enforcing this rule whilst they can, so that they are being seen to do their bit at the begining of the event? Come Thursday and Friday I'd be very surprised if they'll have time to confiscate bottled beer. The French norm IS bottled beer.

Oh well. doesnt affect us as we are with the RWR team and we are responsible adults who only drink fizzy pop so we will be fine.

Wonder what they are doing with all the "confiscated" beer/wine ? Selling it back to us probably at the official bars............

This is ridiculous. First they reduce the engine size of the cars and lower power outputs and now they restrict the beer!!! I hope this is a storm in a teacup!

I'm sure it was said in 'frustration' but calling a whole nation wkers shows a distinct lack of .... well I'm sure you can work out some words to fit?
PS: My daughter is French... so I do take exception to the comment.

Anyone tried to use the normal doors (i.e camping outside and walking in) yet?

Driving down tomorrow and planning on picking up a million red and white stubbies for consumption both inside and outside the track.

I rally can't believe they will search everyone - not sure I want to take the gamble though - all of us are flying into Paris first and extra beer will just be wasted.

Anyone camping inside the track fancy taking a crate or two in for us in exchange for some of said beer?

Haven't drank from one of those since the 90s but genius idea sir!

I owe you a pint - in a plastic glass......
ALDI, £5.99 for 2.25 litres of the finest red wine money can buy*. And it comes in a sturdy plastic bag (once you strip away the box) which can be fairly easily concealed under a baggy top (just whilst passing security).

* It may turn you blind
