The Cerb/Smart @ Harewood hillclimb was my last little "getting-speed-out-of-my-system" type day. Although I will admit to (briefly) hitting a gps varified top speed on the way down to Le Mans (85.5mph, or just slightly over the speed limit on the A16/26??? - but there wasnt anyone around and it was all straight line, not tooo illegal stuff)

I was getting a kick from overtaking loads though, most cars seemed to be well under the speed limit so I could just breeze past with ease whenever the opportunity came LHD + high seating position, I can see for miiiiiiiles...

not all the french police were that bad, i was driving my friends lotus elise(a blue s1) in a convoy with two green elises and we got caught doing 220kph(140mph) in a 130kph zone, probably by the 2 motorbikes mentioned further up, he'd followed us for 5km but couldn't catch up,when he did he said our average was 168kph(107mph) and after a bit of friendly bantering he let us of with a 90euro fine each, however in ther hotel last night we did here some horror stories but its just like here in uk, some cops are ok and some are not. im looking foreward to next year already.

I won’t admit to it, but Doing 185mph in my 996tt heading up near Calais today, around 5pm, passed through x2 laser traps, the bell 550 and the laser jammer went nuts! Jammed on the anchors and cruised by. No chase, so these toys do work - well worth the investment

Driving down from calais to rouen, have let my mate take the wheel of my 355 gts f1 and am telling him to hold the gears and nail it, he wimps out at 120mph (not his car) and takes his foot of the accelerator only to get immediately zapped and bike pulls out waves us up the next exit. His brother and my mate follow in his 328 gts (which was obviously doing the same speed so they are unsure as to stop or go). Once we have stopped from the other car all they can see is us out of the car talking to the gendarmes (there is a van of them there) and the one doing the talking undoing his belt...our mates think we are in real trouble...

Conversation goes like this

"are you aware of why we stopped you?"
"yes, speeding"
"correct you were doing 169 kmh in a 130, normally the fine for this is 40 euros but if you will give our colleague a ride in your car we will ignore this"
to which my relieved mate replies
"Vive la France"

I proceed to take the guy for a blast down the local road with my mate in hot pursuit. We do a three point turn to come back and a police van gets between the two of us...I am unsure what to do speed wise but then figure "hey he'll be in a lot more trouble than me if i get stopped again" so absolutely nail it...no problems at all...don't buy a zapper, get a policeman!

All told cost us nothing and delayed us by less than 15 minutes...biggest result of the weekend!!!

That really is a great story, and sort of gives me faith in the human race again (or at least Le Flics....)

(Oh, and t1grm, yes I was camped in bleu... you are right - there couldn't have been all that many cars matching that description there...)

This has happened before. Some years ago on trip to Barcelona with Easytrack two elises were stopped and their drivers feared the worst. The story was much the same except the cops wanted to get photos of themselves waving out the window of the cars as they sped by their van. It seemed they had an impressive collection of pics which adorned the walls of their local gendarmerie!

Only one of our Posse got done on the way home - to the best of my knowledge - and that was for overtaking on a solid white line. The police were stopping loads of people just outside Le Mans (Sees) for having Road Angels in their cars. 750 euro fine and confiscation of the Road Angel I believe.

I was zapped along with a TVR at the imfamous bridge on the A28 AT 198 (thankfully a lot slower than earlier) and carted off to be relived of some cash and my license
Joked with the Gendame whilst sitting in his little blue van that it was the second time over the weekend that the french had muggeg the English
Had to pasenger for the next 10 miles before swapping seats again

Not all the cops were b@stards though
Just passing Roune I undertook a white Mondeo estate that was hogging the outside lane. He flashed me a few times and left his headlights on, folowed me for a few miles with a bad case of roadrage I kept letting him pull up alongside the blasting off (140 MPH) he eventually put his blue light on the dash and gave me a blast of his siren as he pulled alongside gave me a shake of the fist and blasted off

The Feds are not the only things to watch out for, the wildlife is positively suicidal, twatting a bird or a rabbit is one thing but the wild boar that ran out in front of me on the N138 is a life threatening exprience, I'm doing about 140mph and this thing appears from the bushs, ugly beast about the size of a really big dog only a lot fatter, it runs across the road just as I'm pulling in after overtaking a truck I swerve and miss it by inches, hitting that thing really would have ruined my weekend.I dread to think of the resulting carnage of a 140mph Griff hitting several hundred kilos of hairy pig.

My mate Gary got nicked in his Carrera at the speedtrap between Arnage and the Porsche Curves on Friday. A straight EUR90. Not a bad result as the Buttmonkeys had 17 cars and the way we caned it there and back I think we got off lightly.

We did manage to put a T350C into a ditch near Rouen yesterday afternoon though , no damage only dented pride.

Great LM this year but all the changes at Maison Blanche meant a long walk around to Burnout Alley

I got back last night after staying in jersey on the sunday night monday.

I dont think many will beat this speed, but anyone else that did fly did you come close

On the way in I was cruising at 180 knts about 210 mph and then when I started my decent some 50-60 miles out I maintained 210knts about 240 mph all the way down the hill.

The friends of mine that drove down in a convoy saw, 1 car wiped out by aqaplaing at over 90 the other cars where all slightly heaver loaded so didnt aquaplane but that was close, one chap in porche pulled for a radar detector on dash got £500 fine for that, one car numberplate fell off police took passport so they went down the road got some tape stuck it on when back to police to get passport back, so as ever great time had.

Me too. The car looked fantastic gt5s_1985
Good to meet you too. Sorry I didnt talk for long but there just seemd to be hundreds of people I wanted to makes sure I said hello to that morning. A great meet.

Sorry for the hi-jack.
I'll just add that we didnt have too many problems. Saw virtually no police on the way down and when there go a warning for no seatbelt whilst another go a 90 euro fine which he didnt argue and seemd happy enopugh to accept.
If the policing was like this in the UK with out the scameras we'd all be a lot better off and have safer roads.

I had a very lucky escape before I even got there.

M20, just before 6. Thinking I was late for the ferry I was going a little fast, my speedo thinking it was 107 a little fast. I saw a police Volvo chasing up behind me at one hell of a rate of knots (doing 140?). Don't know where he came from, but he was certainly gaining on me VERY fast.

I stepped down through the gears quickly to kill off speed down to 75-ish and moved in a lane.

The Volvo came behind me, along side me, paused for a few (horrible!) minutes, then drifted off.

Can only presume they didn't get a fix on my speed (ie. were trying to use VASCAR) - how lucky was I?!

Oops... I thought as I continued my journey at a more reasonable speed!

...Went over on the Thursday with a freind in a Lotus 340R. I took my girlfreinds Golf GTi stuffed with luggage. We joined up with an Elise and a Westfield V8 for a while, on the N138. Having a bit of a blast the road went into 2 lanes, so we overtook the Lorries etc and got a clear run. The speedo must have been wrong (cough, cough) as we were well over double the limit! Road goes back into single lane, and just as it does, 2 Gendermerie had just pulled over a french van! LUCKY or what!

Who was in the Blue SMART car (TVR Livery, B3 NCA?) Very well done to you sir! ...It was flying! :-)

Last year hurtled down at serious speed, didn't see plod the whole weekend. This year took it a bit easier, what with the rain on Thursday and celebrations on Sunday night (TVR - not footy!). Went through 1 speed trap on the way down (north of Rouen), 2 on the way back (Monday) (1 south of Rouen, 1 south of Calais). Didn't get done - but saw one guy behind me in a orange Lotus getting pulled.

Cheers,

Andy.
