Hi All,

Has anyone who was there got any details of the company that was selling the replica racing jackets? They were badged in the back as "Dakota" but a web search doesn't dig up any info and I'm now kicking myself for not getting a Gulf Racing one... Haven't seen them before

Ta,

Kris..

Hi Krispy

Like many people, you and I found these jackets absolutely terrific.

My brother bought one, (not the Gulf one) which suits quite well with the style of his car (Alfa Romeo Junior 1969); had to refrain myself as my car,(Jaguar XK 120) suits more with the Chapal style (bought magnificent glasses).

Anyway, here is the answer to your question : it is a german company based in Ettlingen and they have an internet site :

www.dakota-industry.de

Don't know if they have english resellers but maybe you'll find them at Silverstone or any other classic car event.

Otherwise, next Le Mans Classic is in 2 year time!!!

Hi Etienne,

Thanks a lot for the info - I never would have found that site!

I agree, the jackets really looked superb, although I can understand that Chapal would probably go with the XK slightly better. .

Assuming I can order online for the UK, I'm not sure whether to go for the plain gulf racing jacket or the dirt encrusted one. How did they size up by the way? I didn't get round to trying one on.

Hi krispy, hi brother

I am the one who bought a race jacket at the Dakota shop in LM Classic.
The jacket I chose is not the Gulf one, it is a lighter and softer one. Anyway, Dakota seems to have "normal" sizes. I explain to you : I am 6 feet & 2 inches tall (1.87m) and my weight is a bit less than 200lb (90kg -I know, I know, I have to be careful...) and XL is perfect for me (L too small, no hesitation).

I remember I tried a Gulf one (white at 149 euros, really nice), and I would have chosen XL too. The sizes are real and precise.

Hope I answered the question. Enjoy your new jacket, krispy McQueen !

Hi Gluden,

Thanks for the info re. sizing. I mailed them last night and got a reply today to say they're planning on being at Goodwood for the Revival in September, so I think I'm going to wait until then.

Good to hear you're happy with your jacket. They must have done good trade at Le Mans - there seemed to be a lot of people around that stand all weekend.

...Krispy McQueen......hmm... maybe not
