Don't confuse tire smoke with engine problems, the blue/lilac cerb was on the deck to start with and hitting 150+ reshaped the rear boots - good for effect though

Only other problem I've heard about was a dodgy alternator bracket on DMcD's car. Soon sorted though.

That wouldn't be one of the american speed alternator brackets with a turnbuckle would it? I suffered a problem with mine back in blighty before the Le Mans trip.

My Ultima made it to Le Mans and back no problems, although the temperature gauge read high a few times. The guys on the ferry even got out the special ramps to stop me wiping off my splitter.

One of the most amusing points was heading along the drag strip, being asked by a Frenchman which team I was in.

Still haven't managed to remove the sticky bogey from the camping pass in my windscreen (haven't tried very hard either).

When I first got it I was convinced I could get anywhere faster in my Subaru. I now realise that is bullshit. Overtaking in third gear is just incredible. I think the gearing is a bit shorter than normal on mine though as I was just about to hit the rev limiter at 160mph (although it was still pulling like a train). (about 6000 revs). I have the gearbox that used to be in 14 FC (for its trans-American oddysey).

Also still convinced that it is running a bit rich, keep meaning to take it to GRL in Woking to have it checked out and see how much my 542 American ponies equate to in UK horses

The power is deceptive though. I cruised past a friends 400bhp R33 Skyline on part throttle. He told me later that he had his foot to the floor in the lowest gear he could.

I need to do something about the seat though. Can't fit in properly with a crash helmet. I wish they had told me about the lowered floor pan option when I ordered it. I am currently thinking about bolting the seat directly to the floor, losing the sliding rails but gaining a valuable inch.

Polson - You know what they say about adding another inch ..... best kept to another forum !!!!

I was showing 5800rpm at 160mph and as you say, it was still pulling hard. May be worth getting your tacho checked for accuracy, it should be OK but you never know. Let me know what the rolling road session brings, always interested to see how ponies compare to horses.

As for overtakes, you have probably found the same as me ...
5th = 'that was comfortable'
4th = 'hhmmmm, interesting'
3rd = 'Where the fcuk did that corner come from? I'm going to die'

ultiman - it was me in the Cerbie that was filming you not taking pictures I am afraid.....but when i get the film onto cd I will send you a copy for good measure.....sorry if anyone thought we were going too slow but one of our number lost his number plate and we were fannying around for a while between Calais and rouen...but then we really got going especially along the N128 where we were regularly hitiing 150/160 after some mad overtaking escapapdes.....ah next year roll on LM2003...

Cheers Basher, can't wait to see the beast in action. Sorry l can't return the compliment as there was no camera to hand and anyway my passenger had his hands over his eyes.

Polson, which American Speed version? the later billet Aly item or the chrome plated steel job? The latter is rubbish as most of the stress is on the weakest point with inevitable failure. The billet job is OK but you have to watch the eccentric load on the bolts which snap. David McD had a bolt drop out which left the mounting rubbing against the pully wheel. Fascinating effect like a section drawn through the rose joint. He fitted a new one from our courageous support car. l had a bolt snap in the block which is not so easy to resolve (on a Saturday in Luxomburg). l was using the old bolts, David was using the new stronger items. These dont bind well in the thread so need a bit of locktite or regular checking. l have had every problem with my alternator bracket etc so l now classify myself as an expert.

I too caught the 160mph bug in the excitment to reach Le Mans. Beautiful roads though. The french realy know how to build them, i dont think i saw one pothole from calais to le mans. Hopefully if i get a Cebera by next year 200mph may be on the cards. But the Genedarm or however you spell it are a tadd hard to spot at that speed. but hopefully Je ne comprand pas will save my ass. I am looking forward to those tunnels with the super sports exhaust t'was rediculous enough with a standard system. I can sympathise with the Ultima and its splitters on the ferry. I had to sell my z3 because i had made it too low with eibach springs and spliters. I was determind not to be beaten on ride hieght by some Le Mans corvette! I too was overtaken by the bright orange Cerbera license plate cerbie
