Is it too late to try and sort out a trip to LM on a budget??

I have read a pile of stuff in the LM forum on PH and it seems that I had over-estimated the cost of travel down there by quite a bit - was looking at £500-600 all in, is that too much?

However, I am sure early booking discounts on ferries have gone now and prices will be ramped up, have people found this before?

What about the overall cost of tickets? I assume the prices don't change regardless of when you buy advanced tickets for the race? Which tickets would you recommend as vital for the weekend?

Finally, what about the cost of camping at LM. Basically we will bring a tent and do the camping thing as cheaply as possible, but which is the cheapest site that's relatively close to the circuit?

I really want to do Le Mans at some point and had pencilled in 2006, but now I have utter and total malignant Le Mans fever and am trying to plan a trip for this year!!!

Has anyone else tried LM on a budget???

This year will be the tenth on the trot and i've got there most ways ( car, boat, plane, train)

this year as i cant be bothered to organise anything im just going to jump on a the eurostar ( you can buy a return ticket from london to lm for about 110 quid) I've got a few mates going in cars so i'll camp with them or just take my tent and pitch it up in the circuit.

the best way to get race tickets is from the carrfore supermarket. same price as the circuit but no queue.

unless you can pick up surplus tickets from some of the forums you've no chance of a grandstand ticket and a decent camp site unless you buy a package from somewhere like page & moy, MRI, just tickets etc

see you there G

Its definately not too late to organise things. Last year we left it very late but still managed to get it sorted for not too much wonga. Ferries were quite pricey but we booked only a few weeks beforehand. The best deal I found was Dover to Dunkirk on a small truck ferry. We had to camp in Parking Bleu as we missed the ones that appeared on ebay but that was quite cheap. Race tickets were had from the circuit (no queueing involved). Getting back to the circuit from the town centre on Friday night was quite pricey though. Where do all the taxis go? Eventually got a restaurant owner to drive us back for 50 euros. Money to be made if you can stay sober.

Could do one night sober, found a ferry for £50 return if I book tomorrow so might do that!
Are there still places available at most of the campsites at this stage? I am definitely going to camp so that will have to be booked!

Got 3 in the car now so that'll split the costs a bit!

I can't wait

Costs for our last two years have been £185ish each based on two per car, factor in fuel, food and beer and you're still well short of the £500-£600 mark unless you're a beer monster or drive a tank!

Just do it, plenty have arranged it last minute and it worked well, probably more of a blast than the months of pre-planning too!

should be able to do it for £250 no probs:-

- speedferries.com £50 return (if two in a car then £25 each)
- speedchills.com hospitality + camping pass £36 each
- general admission ticket £40 each

so £101 for all tickets and hospitality then another £150 for fuel, food and drink...

Out of interest, how do you get tickets so cheap?
I have looked into camping at Houx Annexe and as far as I can see it's going to be about £90 to camp from the 15th to the 19th of June inclusive.
Any chance you could email me the speedchills details of the tickets you have got?

just go through speedchills.com

if you book their hospitality (£20) then you can get camping and general admission tickets at cost

don't get scammed by the likes of MRI !!

General entrance tickets are always around £40 unless someone puts some profit on top.

The ACO charging for camping seems a little erratic, having seem their booking forms, as we get charged a fixed rate camping fee, where-as others seem to be charged by the day.

SpeedChills|www.speedchills.com are a new venture, a value-added Le Mans experience which looks like a great idea, having just looked at their site I noticed the following which might be very handy for you...

Just checked the speedchills website and the camping is at Beausejoir which is quite a walk to the track IRC. Not a bad price though.

With MRI we are paying £231 per head based on 2 people in a car staying at Houx campingwith eurotunnel crossing and entrance tickets

Out of curiosity does that include grandstand tickets?

no just the plain old general entrance tickets. A bit pricey but the only way we could garantee 10 pitches next to each other as its a big group this year

Were paying 199 for a package each based on two per car, I beleive to add a third person will cost an additional £89!

So a car of three would be £160 ish each, this includes ferry, camping and race tickets!

That's what I was thinking, as last year through the TVRCC we were looking at £190ish as I recall, this year prices have gone up a bit, but as we're using SpeedFerries it works out around £165.

That includes a grandstand ticket and £10 each coach trip for the parade.

Are you still using the TVRCC?

I'm still a lazy devil yes

Besides which I've got enough to think about with 24 cars in the group this year!

The only reason I went with MRi is that none of us are TVRCC members and they only sell to members IRC.

Its quite a task trying to organise it all and I only have 10 cars to sort out

so to summarise:-
- MRI £231
- speedferries/chills £101

;-)

also Beausjour is very good for watching the night racing from Arnage / Indianapolis as they are in walking distance + is right by the Porsche curves. It also has showers that many sites do not.. and you can walk to the village without having to go through the chaos around the main entrance/grandstands(!)

(Sorry just very anti-MRI after experiencing their warped version of customer service in the past, also be very very careful as they will scam you for their "travel insurance" unless you can send them a copy of your own policy + 24hr emergency phone number within 48 hours of making your booking!!)

Very aware of MRI and their customer service last year we had to pay £20 per booking change when people were droping out right rip off. Luckily I have the insurance sorted out via my crdit card so will not have to pay their £25 premium for it.

The only reason we are going with them this year is because its easier and the ACO did not come up with the goods again
