Hill and Moss to race at Le Mans

Historic race entrants pouring in

Entries have been pouring in for the 2005 Le Mans Legend, the Historic race run a few hours before the start of the Le Mans 24 Hours. This year’s race is for cars which ran at Le Mans between 1935 and 1955, or sister cars of the same specification, and entries already include:

  • Three-times Le Mans winner and 1961 F1 World Champion Phil Hill in an Alfa Romeo 3000CM – the actual car which Fangio drove at Le Mans in 1953.
  • Sir Stirling Moss in Nigel Webb’s Jaguar C-type: the very first production C-type (the first three were works racers) and the earliest surviving example of this evocative purpose-built sports-racer.
  • Other well-known names from the world of motorsport, including F1 pilot and Le Mans-winning driver Johnny Herbert, and rally star Rauno Aaltonen.
  • A great number of cars with actual Le Mans history including an MG K3 (Le Mans 1935); Aston Martin Ulster (Le Mans 1935); Aston Martin ‘Red Dragon’ (Le Mans 1937 and 1949); HRG Le Mans (Le Mans 1949); and Jaguar XK120 (Le Mans 1950).

And that’s just the start. On Saturday 18th June 2005, the Le Mans Legend will be a one-hour, two-driver race on the full 8.5-mile circuit with a grid of 61 cars from the 1935-1955 era. It promises an outstanding spectacle for Historic racing enthusiasts.

This will be a fantastic spectacle if the Le Mans Classic is anything to go by.

I wonder what car Johnny Herbert will be driving, if it's Nigel Webb's D Type let's hope he doesn't keep blowing it up like last year

June cannot come fast enough.

Note to self:

Must stay sober this year and not dissolve into a puddle of my own piss and puke before midday.

Bring on June!

It's amazing to think that a few years ago Nigel Webb came down to Le Mans with Mark B and myself and now he's entering two cars for the Classic one driven by Stirling Moss (C-Type) and the other by Johnny Herbert (D-Type) - it's a tough life ! Needless to say he stays in a bit more comfort these days rather than camping round the back of the bar next to the main gate !

It's been great over the last two Le Mans, get up, and shake off your hang over looking at cars that I've never really seen before that still sound terrific!! and has to be said they kick arse considering when they were built !!
