Can you not just figure out the route and book yourself some accommodation or is it not that easy? Like you I'd like to go some time.

my recommendation would be to drive down to Tuscany , pick a town on the route where theres a time check and sit and watch them all come through ,
thats what we did in 2010, to keep wifey happy we had 4 days in Portofino and 4 days in Tuscany .
a lot of people like to follow the race , so hotels are busy .
never been to Brescia for the start ,Sienna is a good place to view .

I've been 3 times to the MM.

Recommend going to Brescia for the start ,they park all cars in the town centre the morning/afternoon

before the start and then I go out to the roundabout where the MM museum is to watch all 400 or so

cars leaving.

Obviously go into the MM museum too.

Then, as above ,look at route and find a spot to see them out on the open road.

I'm lucky in getting free accomodation in my sister's holiday house near Lucca.

Last year was epically wet on start day so the display in the town may have been crap as many cars have

no roof whatsoever [true barchettas] but I missed it anyway spent too long in Milan.

Yes could easily book it up as have travelled around Europe many times on motorbikes and cars. Just wondered if there was a group of like minded people going e.g. pistonheads car/bike people. Find myself on my lonesome at the moment (memo to self, must wash and clean teeth on a more regular basis laugh)Every organised group seem to charge people with no friends an extra £500-£700. We can't help it if no one likes us!!!!!

I used to live in Ferrara where they stop overnight - usually a pretty good evening in the main square and approaches seeing them all turn up. Often several local car clubs set up around town too.

Anyone on here considering this for 18th - 21st May ?

I'm due some, well overdue, time off projects and thinking about moseying down to Brescia; driving the route with the historic ufficiale competitors.
Contact me if so; would be setting off from Londinium 16th May with a lofty Norwegian co-driver and a sensitively stickered Z4MC.

Thanks

I live near Rome. For the last 3 years I have been driving my MX5 NC amongst the Mille Miglia as it does the Rome - Roncilgione leg of the event. With the roof down it is a great way to hear and see the other cars. It started to chuck it down today which threw all of the tiny open 40s cars (Abarths, Oscas etc) into disarray as they tried to get some weather protection up.

You get an idea of how much amazing stuff there is running when you pull over to take some pictures and you actually get bored of snapping 'yet another gullwing Mercedes'. Always love seeing the Jags - so many XKs today, plus a lovely D Type and C Type.

Lots of other local car clubs seem to have a run out during the day. Abarth 595s, BMW Z3s and Z4s mixing it with the Porsche 550s and Maseratis. I got a wave from another chap in an NC doing exactly the same thing as me.

I'd highly recommend just driving with the event for an hour or so if you are in Italy when it is running.

We followed the full route this year; Brescia - Padua - Rome - Parma - Brescia.
Even sometimes managed to get waved through with the official cars to the town centres; driving through the Piazza del Campo in Siena was a highlight; speeding through Verona traffic jams with police outriders :-)
Some stunning metal and really great scenic roads; although shattering after driving nearly 12 hours a day for 3 days.
A few quick snaps inc. the Z4MC we took.

Out of interest, how did you get a number for the BMW, or is it a mock-up you make to look like the official decals?

I had some made up, inspired by previous years and as a tribute to the 1940 BMW win (no. 70).
Wasn't intended to confuse the officials (obviously not a 1927-57 car...) but clearly it did.
