Really enjoying the race but I do wonder if LMP2 will be the premier class next year.
With Perrinn and Ginetta joining LMP1 next year that will be a healthy grid.
Thing is if the manufacturers stay they will be way ahead of the privateers, so effectively we'd have LMP1 as it is now, with LMP1.5.

Peugeot are allegedly to return, maybe not next year though.

Yup. Children see to that.

Porsche still plodding around.

What on Earth do Toyota have to do to win this race?

Just waking up... saw the 7 Toyota nursing it back to the pits.. and now know that it never made it back.
Was really wanting to see Toyota finally do it this year and win Le Mans.. but there's always mechanical issues or traffic denying them from finally doing it.

It's an inferior hybrid system than the Porsche.

They pumped for higher output/speed at the cost of endurance racing. Had they gone for less output maybe they would be similar to Porsche or simply Porsche are so far ahead Toyota had no option but to risk it and sadly for them the engineering simply isn't there yet to mount a decent challenge to Porsche.

As already said, the FIA site has been shocking!

Have been using a live feed via YouTube up until maybe 20min ago, that's now bust however I've found this live link instead. It's Eurosport's coverage so you'll have to put up with adverts.

That might explain one failure but the other was down to accident damage.

The Porsche system isn't perfect- they spent 1hr 20mins having to replace the front axles on one car because the hybrid system failed.

To be fair, I think only the 8 had a motor failure...7 had some weird problem with the gearbox? Or ICE and was trying to limp home on the battery alone. Didn't make it. Number 9 had a blow out and then the silly bugger drove it too hard and the carcass ripped through some important bits and pieces and it caught fire.

And Porsche have had a similar experience, with the #1 having it's front end changed because of motor problems. I dare say theirs looked a more straightforward fix; Toyota literally had the #8 in its component parts to change theirs! They even had to take the windscreen off!
