Anyone Caught Speeding?
Discussion
Yep, if you want to speed don't complain if you get caught (and don't blaim the police for only stopping UK cars and not French ones doing the same speed - they don't need to stop the French cars, they just post them a nice fine letter).
Not having a go at Retept, or anyone else here but 170KMH is 105MPH and if you get caught by the police doing 105MPH on a UK motorway that's a default instant loss of licence. What looks like it should be a 135Euro fine seems like getting away lightly in that light. Hell getting caught at 181KPH and receiving a 1,500Euro fine + getting to invite someone else to drive your car seem OK vs. a driving ban for doing 112MPH in the UK. Not really sure why some Brits feel that they can nip over to France, ignore the rules and then feel offended when they get pulled?
In all seriousness. I'm not trying to pour fuel on a fire here. There are rules and speed limits, just like here, in the UK.
I guess the difference is that the motorways/autoroutes/peage, all seem incredibly empty, when compared to the UK.
Can you imagine what the Daily Mail would say, if 50,000 French blokes came over here and drove around like loons, expecting to get away with it?
Ah this explains why you drive like Miss Daisy over there In all seriousness. I'm not trying to pour fuel on a fire here. There are rules and speed limits, just like here, in the UK.

Never forget the look on the guys face as he overtook our Tuscan and 996 Turbo convoy in his beaten up 2CV van, brilliant!
@Timbuktu. Keep us posted re any fines you get. Used to sail past those cameras at what ever speed we wanted as there was no come back but the rules changed this year and the fines can be imposed. I slowed for every one we saw.
Re the speeding. The limits in france are higher than at home and with a generally accepted rule that you won't get pulled at 145 in a 130, you can cruise at 90mph+ which is enough to make progress. That said, we do 'light it up' off piste south of Rouen and reach some eye watering speeds. Just can't help it on those amazing roads through that stunning countryside. Just keep your eyes peeled and hope you don't get caught

Will report back if I get anything in the post.
We drove back from Rouen on the Monday, at the Peage on the way to Calais there were around 25 Gendarmarie and they were pulling all sorts of cars, including a French bloke in an X5 who insisted on driving less than 3 feet from everyone's bumper...
We were in convoy and gliding along on the limit so no issues, dont think I've seen so many in one Peage before...

The rules changed recently, expect some French letters that are not of the fun type.
Just out of interest, when exactly were the rules meant to change, does anyone have any links?ETA: Just found an article, looks like just fines rather than points so not too bad then!

It was a random stop as I came through the pay age, I only saw brits being pulled but was only there 2 mins. I was in a v70, so it wasn't the car that got me pulled.
There was a guy in a corvette who came up a sliptoad to the pay age being a bit of a Dick until he realised who was waiting the other side. Don't think he got let off so lightly.

Did anyone see any UK patrols? Apparently some went over to support the French Police.

That article is from 2014. One of our party who travelled down on his own on the Friday got pulled and relieved of €90 just past the 1st peage on the A28. He said he nearly fell over when a British police officer pitched up and told him to shut up and hand over €90. http://www.kentnews.co.uk/news/kent-police-french-...
He maintains to this day that he wasn't doing the speed they acussed him of and was asking Les BiB to show him evidence of his misdemeanour. They couldn't. He argued the toss. British plod 'strongly recommended' he drop it, pay the fine and carry on his way. I wonder if Les BiB split the days takings equally between the UK and French plod Christmas fund?

This is the place to do it, police always wait on the main motorways and you get better roads that are seemingly less patrolled. I did go though a speed camera a good +100km above the limit when last at LM (mid-overtake), never heard a thingRe the speeding. I saw many police lining the roads, but didn't get stopped. Barely sped at all, as I didn't see the point. Fairly funny to see 2x P1's going past about 3kph faster than I! Obviously like their money too.
I did see someone, who I thought was taking photos on a bridge, turns out it was a radar and 1/2 mile up the road a bike cop with his lights and sirens on all ready. Cheeky gits.

This is worth a look when we think about roaring around in rural France. One of the drivers is a friend of a friend. 2 x 911s confiscated (150mph and 120mph in a 110km limit area). They got the cars back a year later I am told, and they were not in very good condition. 2000 Euro fines also and the threat of a prison sentence!!!
Serious stuff.
