Went for the first time last year, going again with a bigger group this year, from wednesday till monday. Ventured into Le Mans town for the drivers parade last year, and to the hyper market, but feel we must be missing out on other stuff.

Any recommendations on bars etc etc in town or the local area for the times before and after the race?

So, you're basically asking where the best place to meet girls is?

Wasn't there a race to watch last year ? Maybe they will have something like that again this year.

Friday:
Cafe Des Hunadieres - Mulsanne straight, always was a good haunt, nice for a couple of beers and watch the queues of British cars heading out toward:

Indianapolis/Arnage bends, Mad Friday starts here, lots and lots of lovely cars of all types, classic, sports and hyper to ogle at, including much merriment.

Pitlane walkabout - All day Friday through to 4pm ish....

Drivers parade - you know about that one

Maison Blanche - Bun outs on the road outside...
Houx Annexe - Roundabout fun

Evening, campsite beers or in town for some bars.

Saturday - I think there is a race on
Saturday Evening, get in the car to see the corners - Arnage, Mulsanne, Tetre Rouge and out to the Mulsanne for high speed action.

Sunday - Race finishes, back to the campsites to watch everyone packing and queueing to go home, followed by more beers on the campsites and more Houx Annexe roundabout fun and fireworks.......

At some point, you could always go to the fun fair, watch night time at the pits, raid the track and stand under the podium at the end, strippers, death karts, beer, McDonalds, beer, Carrefour, bonfires, etc, etc

Does it show, I can't wait for Le Mans 2005!

Chaps

Didnt want to come across as a complete novice. Did the pits, parade, track invasion, fun fair, qualifying, race, fireworks, drunkenness, arnage etc etc last year.

My question was more to do with the town, as when we went down for the drivers parade it was like a ghost town. I just thought we may have missed something.

Also extremely eager for this years event.

Were you in the right place?

It's also busy in Arnage on the Friday night.

Plenty of people head down to Chartes sur la Loir during the day on Friday.

On another post on here, someone was recommending the Friday events up at St Saurtin (sp?) - near the junction of the new Autoroute and the N138 - where this year's featured marque will be Lotus IIRC.

There never seems to be enough time during Le Mans week, and where ever you go there is something happening.

Yeah sorry, obviously the drivers parade was very busy, but wandering around town away from the parade it was all a bit quiet.

Cheers for the tips

Sounds like all the fun happens from Friday onwards though. I'd be interested too if there are any decent places to hang out in town on the Wednesday-Thursday, rather than the obvious stuff centred around the race track. Plenty of people seem to get down to LM early (we're normally Thursday ourselves), but what goes on in town in the run up to the big weekend?

Think thats a fair assessment. Theres all the razmataz surouding the race though this is largely concentrated at the circuit. In town you get a bit of coloured bunting for the drivers parade.

Real fun I had last year was taking the car out with the others down some nice country roads to find somewhere to eat lunch, then hooning back again. Great stuff, and considerably more enjoyable in many ways that the trafic soaked run down / home

WE are going to Paris on the Thursday something different I guess! Then getting immersed in cars and booze for the rest of the weekend!
