Getting to Le Mans by train

This going to sound really strange, but with the close involvement we have with events spectators are often seen as a hinderance, just something to be managed.......
And here's the contradiction, the atmosphere is the draw - and that can't happen without spectators.....
I find spectators an annoying issue to deal with, they get in my way.And here's the contradiction, the atmosphere is the draw - and that can't happen without spectators.....
I'd hate to go to Le Mans or Assen without them all there though! Know what you mean.
I changed at Lille in 2011, very easy as mentioned earlier.
The funny thing is the TGV still goes to Paris and skirts around the suburbs but they might have improved that now.
I found it quick, easy and relaxing. Beats driving a motorhome for hours especially if you get someone to take it earlier in the week
I flew back from Tours to Stansted in 2010. That was even quicker

I'm totally smitten with the Le Mans 24hrs (and I don't do car racing), I can't imagine either of the bike races being quite the same. Does the 24 Heures Moto beat Assen for atmosphere? I watch it at times and it does seem pretty big, is it on that Assen / Le Mans 24 hrs car race scale? Worth the trip?
.
This is going to sound rather class-conscious, but we who live here refer to the 24 Hour bike race as the council house crew and the GP as the gentlemen. Well, that is we did, but now they are both vying to hit the lowest point. Last year at the GP the oiks decided to wreck the sanitary blocks by taking hammers to the toilets. This year they went one better and stole the toilets, at the same time tagging and destroying the blocks themselves..
Be prepared, if camping, to be subjected to a full search (one way in only to the camp sites) and have sniffer dogs peeing on you. Alcohol is limited to one bottle of spirits per person or a few cans of beer. All supermarkets and shops withing a 10 mile radius have the beer aisle closed by order of the préfecture from Friday morning to Monday.
If this is your thing, you'll enjoy it. Sadly the days are gone when the 24 hour race was echoing to the sound of bikers wandering around with a chain saw revving to the limit in their hands, when vans arrived with an old bike and bets were taken on how long it would take to blow up with the throttle wide open and the evening spectacle was often doing the same with an old car and then torching it. Ah, there's nothing like the old days. This year there were 36 licences withdrawn and about 500 fines I seem to remember. The riot police are out in force. I don't go near the circuit.

Definitely not my scene.
I'll stick to the car race, and for bikes it will be Assen!

The ACO pile wooden pallets for the camp fires to stop them chopping down trees.
Assen is a Sunday school outing by comparison!
