Arnage or no Arnage. That is the question!

When I've gone out to the country corners for a bit of night viewing I have been driving in for the race (civilized camping off site) so the car has been the means of getting there. Don't make the mistake of trying to get down the Western side of the circuit: my preferred route is to go east on Voie de la Liberté and take the diversion for the D388 down the D304 to La Loge where right onto the D92 to Ruaudin then the D140TER to Mulsanne.

From Mulsanne to Arnage corner take the D388 south and turn right onto the D212BIS (signposted Moncé-en-Belin) then right onto the D139 (signposted Le Mans) this will bring you past the two parking fields on the left and then the entrance on the right.

The new viewing area for the Indianapolis/Arnage complex is great, the short squirt between the corners is possibly the closest you can get to the cars. Not to be missed IMHO.

This is a very good point. They are dark country roads and cars will struggle to see you if you are not careful.

... i second this ... it's very dark with no footpath ... take lots of care.

i've been walking down there at about midnight for the last couple of years, i take a foldy chair and spend the night there ... come home at dawn. it's a bit of a hike (less than a hour from blue sud) but well worth it ... and the changes have made it even better imo. well worth a visit

Be aware Arnage corner is no where near the village. If you plan to go to the village on the way back be also aware that the village is probably 10 minutes further away from your route back to camp. Its worth going into Arnage but make it a dedicated trip and keep the village alive.

Both are well worth the trip!

From the roundabout at the Porsche Curves take the exit towards Arnage Village (Straight over), on the outskirts of the village there will be a left turn (there might even be a sign! - if you get to the level crossing you've gone too far) just follow that road and you'll get to the corner.

Cheers mate, i think i now remember where the turn off is, i can certainly remember the level crossings walking into Arnage for our beer session, but dont remember it on the way back hehehehe.

BenJk, i really think a 40 mins walk is well worth it. Perhaps Trump, Putin and Kim will join us?

We tend to start the race at the Dunlop Bridge, village side, then walk down to Terte Rouge, cross over and return to the car at Parking Blanc, talking over 6 hrs or so, to have tea back at the car. Then it's down to Mulsanne for a couple of hours on the banking, wonder back along the short straight, to the car, then on to Arnage, for night watching. Following morning return to Mulsanne from the accommodation, for another couple of hours and morning coffee and croissant, then usually end the race at the indy part of the newer viewing area at Arnage, really can't be bothered with the Grandstand area any more, be there done that sort of thing.....so, yes LM is ARNAGE/MULSANNE to us.

If it's dry..

The absolute pinnacle of the event, without any shadow of a doubt (,for me) is doing the night shift at arnage. Dawn is just epic. Take ear plugs if you must, then shrug and just enjoy the best sounds from the vettes astons and Porsches. You can get within a few metres away.

Even better post recent works - you can see them steaming round indy as well. Think Porsche curves under the trees but they're coming at you not going away.

Only if raining, my tent in houx looks nicer than that open bill at arnage! Just be very aware that if you go at night, the queue forthat return bus looks like the least fun thing since the Houx yellow squatter of peril......

Last year we walked down to Arnage, about an hour, but decided to get the bus back, Its was around 0015 and we got on the bus that was waiting with no queue at all. It even left with empty seats! I guess the later on more buses are full.

The huge improvements to Arnage/Indianapolis viewing make it an absolute must now. Part of said improvements was bringing in a new roundabout which means traffic to Arnage can now be two way making the journey much easier - certainly on the return at least.
