The race was run with Toyota being 0.5 secs faster then any other car. That was actually a rule. It was not race it was a manufactured win. Previous years were much better.
Not at all, Toyota had nothing to do with Porsche and Audi quitting to race milk floats round car parks, Toyota were convinced by the ACO to join a year earlier than they wanted, they came in and raced hard, were cruely out of luck last year despite being super quick, they thoroughly deserve this.

Le Mans is as much a race against the track, the conditions and the limits of their mechanicals as it is against opponents, how many cars crashed on their own this year?

I'm happy pink pig won in GT pro.
I bought a model of 917 pink pig on my first visit to Stuttgart museum in 2009.
Been a fan ever since.

I don't think you get Endurance racing.
Neither do the people who make the rules.

Why is it vindication? They failed previously mainly due to being too slow and/or unreliable, and now they finished first in a class of one. It must be one of the most meaningless ‘victories’ in the history of motorsport.

I was hoping endurance racing would be worth another look as an alternative to the debacle F1 has become, but the daft rules and total absence of competition in the fastest class is a joke.
Lack of competition? Enlighten us, since the current regulations came into F1, how many teams have won the Championship? I'll give you a clue, it's less than 2.

Good race this year, not a classic. Great result for Toyota and well deserved after 20 years of on and off attempts. All classes other than LMP1 were super competitive this year.

I don't understand the moaners here. Actually, I do: they assume it's a race of 60 cars, but it's race of 4 classes and a class win is equal to an outright win, and it's great to see the races-within-the-race.

Eurosport was rubbish, but as it was free, can't complain really. I reckon something like 30% of the transmission was taken up by adverts and The Coach so lots of crucial incidents were never seen. And why show pics of general things and interviews when on track events were happening?

Good old RLM, excellent as always. And as for Truswell admitting having 2 "pit stops".....ruined his reputation methinks!

Can't wait now for WEC at Silverstone.

R.

Perhaps not, but doesn't lessen Toyota's win

Well done Toyota for finally winning this great race, well-deserved after so many disappointments in previous years.

Pleased that Alonso got his win, hopefully he’ll go on to win the Indy 500 as well. Would have liked to see Ford win in GTE-Pro but if it wasn’t to be then the Pink Pig makes a great alternative!

Still enjoyed (what for me at least) is the best Motor Sport event of the year.

Strange that, because when I used to bother commenting on how atrocious F1 was becoming, I apparently didn’t “get” that either.

What I genuinely don’t “get”, is how people not only accept, but appear to actively celebrate mediocrity these days.

I know. And F1 is utterly st, hence my comment. Try to keep up dear.

After some years away I thought I would give LeMans another go. It would seem several teams did not turn up, perhaps just one. I seem to remember there was so much more variety in the old days, some daft sod would try to race a countach, odds and sods. Now they have to reference old liveries to try to ignite some nostalgia,(I bet that cigarette company were ecstatic). This 'golden race' is not looking very attractive to manufacturers it seems.

Maybe just stay away then?

Should 70 year or Porsche not be celebrated with two great looking historic liveries?

Well, maybe you should just find something that you do "get" then.

We had more combinations of chassis and engine than I can remember since the early 2000s

If you want variety go watch Blancpain. Currently there are 13 manufacturers involved. Audi, Aston Martin, Bentley, BMW, Ferrari, Honda, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Lexus, Mercedes, Mclaren, Nissan and Porsche

Erm, the Countach would have been in the same category as the 911s, Ford GTs, Aston Martin Vantages, BMW M8s, Ferrari 488s and Corvette C7Rs.....6 big manufacturers in 1 category. I don't think it's ever been much more, has it?

Yes, but apart from that, what have the big manufacturers ever done for Le Mans?
