First time going to LeMans, so wanted a few suggestions of parts of the circuit to visit to get a good view of the on-track action. I haven't opted for grandstand tickets, as I can't stay in the same place for very long and enjoy viewing races from different vantage points. I know Goodwood is a much smaller scale, but I will regularly walk the entire circuit track side, so would this sort of thing be possible at LeMans? I also have a paddock pass, so will look forward to getting up close to the cars.

I'm camping in Beausajour, which (in theory) should be a central part for most of the track and make make everything more accessible (although I understand most/all of the off-track activities will be near the start/finish straight).

The public viewing areas are mostly on the permanent parts of the track, you can only watch the road section from viewing points at Arnage and Mulsanne Corner.

The main public area runs from the Ford Chicane to the Tertre Rouge corner and you'll have access to both side from most of that area.

The good thing about Le Mans is that the events are long enough for you to explore and find spots to your taste.

Beausejour might technically be in the middle of the track but is in fact the furtherest flung campsite, so I hope you have your walking boots.

Thanks for the post. Some good information in there. I won't worry too much about the walking distance, as I'm always on my feet. Although I have been debating taking my road bike for when I want quick access to a certain point. Would this be allowed?

I assume it will be a 30/45 minute walk from Beausejour to the main village? Whereas Beausejour to Arnage will be significantly shorter.

Really don't know what to expect on the whole, as it's such a big space and large event. Will people be staying up the majority of the night and sleep at specific times so they see their favorite set of cars at night, or will that be decided at the time.

I've been going to Le mans for years but this year even I found some new spots.

Hotel Arbor,
15 euros to get in, that gives you entry into the hotel grounds at the exit of the 2nd chichane on Mulsanne straight, there are two viewing points. one along the mulsanne straight where you see the cars heading down towards the rise before Mulsanne corner and the other viewing point on the 2nd chicane itself.

Also you get either a large beer or soft drink and a Jambon baguette included in the 15 euros per person price.
You also do not have to have a GE Ticket! So if you just want to pop in and watch the racing for a couple of hours, you can smile

nice place to watch from is Tetre Rouge, from the spectator bank you get to see cars for a long distance until disappearing onto the Mulsanne Straight, also not bad for photograhy as well, and you can also pop out of the circuit to get a beer at tetre rouge cafe!

We take bikes every year without fail. An absolute must to get to Arnage or Mulsanne as you're on country roads not alongside the circuit. You can't see the circuit from these roads so will miss a lot of the action. We always go to the inside of the Porsche curves through the BSJ campsite then onto Arnage.

Just to add, if you take a bike remember your bike locks as you can't take your bike into some spectator areas.... Oh and obviously lights.

They need to move that marshal shed, if they slid it over to the nearside wall you would then be able to get an unblocked view of the mulsanne, Or put a different pitch roof on it.

Banking at start of Porsche curves (inside track) closest to BSJ campsite is good.

Mulsanne corner banking for cars around 11pm - 1am Saturday night is good as not too crowded at Classic and can also see them 500-600 metres along straight to Indianapolis.

In main arena area favourites are Dunlop chicane outside track and near Ford chicane for pits entrance and seeing cars relatively slowly and from Dunlop all along outside of track to just before Tertre Rouge is a good walk.

Unfortunately this is incorrect. You can't walk direct as the road is closesd, it's not the nicest walk along busy roads and is much further than to the pit area because you walk a long way from the circuit and back again to get to Arnage.

The new garage complex at the go kart track is a great new vantage point
You see the cars through the last series of curves up to the start finish line from the roof
There are toilets on the ground floor
Plus the new go kart centre has a bar
Fabulous new spot

Alternative is to drive from Beausejour to Arnage - either the town (for food) or circuit viewing area (free parking is available opposite the viewing area) where you'll have a good vantage. Night time is good.

What about sitting at that bar at Tertre Rouge (the one made out of containers) and having the view of the start of the Mulsanne blocked by that bloody 'Pays de la Loire' sign that goes right across the track?

Outside of Dunlop esses gets great views down the hill, lots of overtakes down there and great photography as you can get right up to the catch fencing and poke cameras through it.

Some great spots to visit, thanks for everyone's suggestions! Really looking forward to the event, apart from the monotonous drive down the M1...
