Ferry for me. Nice break to have some food, stretch my legs and get some air. Usually cheaper too

Bumpety bump.

I've not bothered contacting Eurotunnel yet as no doubt they'll be swamped.
Hearing they are not being particulally charitable with refunds or date changes.

There will be a lot of us in this situation. What options do we have?

I'll ask for a change of date to mid June next year, hopefully I can adjust this when the WEC schedule is confirmed.
If the GOV advice is still Do not travel come June, do we have a valid travel insurance claim?
I paid with credit card. Am I likely to be able to dispute the transaction?

Roll on June 2021 and just hope this bloody virus lockdown is over and done with by then.

Given the Sophie Rodge interview this morning where it was confirmed again a vaccine is 12-18 months away and that’s before mass production starts I’d wager 2022 will be similar unless herd immunity exists.

Eurotunnel tickets are normally valid for 12 months.
I had one from 24th March and I moved it back, I’ve also got one for April 15 and I expect that will be moved but not to next year.
Eurotunnel are still running so as yet they are not cancelling, unless that changes I can’t see them giving refunds especially if travel is allowed in June / July it’s then your decision not to travel. Unless you booked a trip to the 24 hours with them they are only providing transport and that should be available.
Flights booked with Ryanair were cancelled by them so full refund which would not be the case if I decided not to travel.
Exceptional circumstances I’d wait and see what happens let them take the initiative.

I can only change as far as Feb 2021 which is when I made the booking. No good for next June.

I think that is restrictive given the current advice.

Eurotunnel's website says said:
Travel from the UK to France:
Our passenger shuttle services continue to operate. Please check carefully before travelling to Folkestone, as you may be turned away by the French Authorities if you don't have good reason to travel within France. They have advised us that they will only allow travel for the following reasons:

Going home to a main residence
Essential work in France
Medical staff
Whilst you can check in just off the M20, I think France actually 'starts' after the first checkpoint? So effectively you can't get past there unless you satisfy the conditions above, even if you do you would need documentation to be on the road.

Definitely ferry for me.. chance for a meal and you get to feel like you're travelling. The train is a rank experience...though I use it when time is short but its not the same, nowhere near as good
I believe you do the overnight from Portsmouth? I tried to push the same for LM 2020 but I was voted down. Shame, I've done that boat to St Malo and Poole to Cherbourg, it's a good crack, but democracy rules...lolz
Apologies I've only just seen this post!

I mix it up between Portsmouth to St Malo and Dover Calais.

You cannot beat an overnighter to St Malo, the meal, the bar, the pulling in to St Malo, its all just fantastic, especially the restaurant.

However, the atmosphere of driving from Calais is also very special, especially seeing the sports cars driving on the same road - it definitely gets me more in the mood than the St Malo route.

I'm going to probably alternate every year.
Last year we sailed to St Malo, it was fantastic as usual, but we couldn't do the walk around the town because some of the guys had a big motorhome. Did a coast drive and stopped off for coffee etc before heading to the circuit - it was all good.

This year (please be on) we are going Dover / Calais because we are heading to Reims first.
The following year we are Dover / Calais because 4 of us are doing the epic once in a lifetime before I get divorced N24 followed by Le Mans.

So 2022 will be back to St Malo and this time we will possibly overnight there - it all depends on who comes with us. Each year I'm having to show new people around Le Mans, I'm hoping by 2022 I've got no new people so I can miss out some of the mandatory stuff like the Museum etc and do one or two off the track things. St Malo is such a cool place to stay, especially for a few glasses of wine and a good meal.

I'm knackered, unless they loosen the "year from date of purchase' rule

Anything can happen. I'm not too worried about the price of another ferry, but what happens if we're clear of the bug and the French aren't? Will you go/will you be allowed to go or come back?

We'll work something out
