Hi everyone.

Is there a newbie guide on going to le man?

I've been wanting to go for years but finances and family have always got in the way. This year however I finally have a pass out. It looks like there will be about of 8 of going. So I'm looking for some good advice on where to go and where to stay. I've had a look at a few websites. Beer mountain for example and it seems a bit out of date.

I want to make sure there is a safe camp site and no-one is going to run over my tent whilst I'm asleep in it!

All advice accepted.

Thanks.

Try the Beermountain website - I think they have a guide.

Private campsites are run by operators including Lycian, 1st Tickets (PH partners for LM) & Speedchills. If you're looking to be based by the circuit with a secure campsite & good facilities you'll obviously pay a premium over the DIY/public camping though I'm an advocate of clean showers/loos & secure camping (having used 1st Tickets for 7 yrs now) at Bleu Nord where we also take the catering option.

Beermountain is mainly up to date, I added some reviews from members from their visits this year.
Any other questions, the many members here and the various FB pages and groups will serve you well.

I'm hoping to get more reviews onto Beermountain over the winter, so keep looking.

Cheers
Chris

1st Tickets is a fantastic site, I have stayed on the Blue Nord site previously..
Would be a great choice for a first time visit if in your budget, then have a look around at other sites and options for future visits.

This is a worry for me. I was thinking of travelling Wednesday. What does this mean for camp sites? Once you are in I guess you car is in for the weekend?

I'm not apposed to the diy option ive camped at many festivals in my youth is this any different?

When are tickets on sale. I've seen people say that they book the year previous. Other sites say October time. As a member of no clubs i guess ill be last in line.

You'll get a decent spot arriving Wednesday, tickets are on sale now if you go through an agent, not yet if buying direct from the ACO, you'll get more choice of campsite from an agent, but pay significantly more. Private campsites will be on sale now.

ETA, No problems coming and going in your car, track action starts at 4.00pm on Wed, so if possible get down early enough to get set up and get trackside for then

Agree with the above. Do Wednesday to Monday at a minimum.

Also - play your first time by ear. Book your accommodation, channel crossing and ticket but don't overthink an itinerary. You WILL get bitten by the bug and you WILL be back so there will be plenty of opportunity to discover new things in future years. First year, enjoy the atmosphere and the specatcle and don't try to hard to 'do it all.'

Wednesday - Mon is good.

Campsite wise it really depends what you want, as a first timer there are lots of positives to going with 1st tickets or the like. More cash but the organisation/security etc mean less to worry about.

Depending on where you camp you should be able to get your car out ( and back in) at more or less any time.

Circuit food and drink is expensive
Grandstands are a good idea, certainly for the start/finish and as a base for the race.
Classic British welcome, drivers parade, museum, karting, big wheel, pitlane walk, other car shows etc are all brilliant but you might struggle to get them all in, don't worry as you will be coming back in 2021 (actually the drivers parade is pretty crap unless everyone is asking Nigel Mansell where his facial hair has gone).
Arnage at night is always a joy.
Beware Merguez.
Watch for pickpockets.
A toll tag makes life easier.
If you have interesting alloys and are travelling under the sea, then request the high vehicle section.
If you are travelling down in convoy, take walkie talkies.
Cheers

Take bikes (as in bicycles) if you can. It's difficult to articulate the scale of the place unless you've been. You'll cover much more ground and not have to worry about having a few beers and driving back to the campsite. Really does make a difference.

The driver's parade isn't great but still worth going to - at least once.

Get your cars stickered up - all part of the fun!

Enjoy!

Big advocate for the DIY off circuit option.

Not everyone’s cup of tea as they feel you miss out not being on circuit, but there’s loads of options out there that doesn’t have to be expensive and you get a bit more of France chucked into the trip also.

Planned right you can be 20 mins from the track and options range from dirt cheap campsite to airbnb or a local hotel. Other private campsites available.

Happy to take PM if you want off circuit ideas.

Try www.le-mans-guide.co.uk it is last year's version but will be updated from about Jan onwards with final version going out early May. There will also be a Classic version as well.

Hope this helps
