The law in France (I think) says that gatherings are allowed of up to 5000 people, at the moment. Maybe they were seeing how popular the September race might be by getting tickets returned. Maybe close grandstands, or limit the numbers if enough tickets are returned. Parking would be ok, camping could be self regulated. Have it advance ticket only, so no sales on the day. Also depends on rules for travel, rules for social distancing as I'll be sharing a car, which at the moment we can't do. France at the moment is green (I think) except Paris which is orange. This is still a long way off - trying to keep positive.
Where are you seeing 5,000 people? I can only find 10

Well the bike race will run behind closed doors.

Announcement "....the 43th edition of the 24 Hours Motorcycles, scheduled for August 29 and 30, will not have other choice but to take place without an audience."

This may have been an old article, maybe not reflecting the current situation, but it does say that the limit of 5000 was being discussed.

In the AOC le mans survey that was out last month there were several questions where the figure of 5,000 was mentioned. What about the other 245,000 people wink

Imagine being there with only 5000 people! Would be bizarre.

Dunno how that would be allocated out. Would probably hate having it on, but missing out on a spot. Really cruel.

A while back I put it at 10% chance of happening with public in September. Being realistic, probably only still at 30%.

Lots changing from week to week. We’ll see.

I reckon that's less than the number of mechanics, drivers, marshals and officials.

Does that mean the Guinness bar will be shut

I'm starting to think that LM may actually happen in Sept and open as usual, no restrictions. It's just a feeling of course.

I've got a year's worth of st talk saved up, so an additional 3 months to wait isn't a problem. But 12 months? I'm not sure if I can rock up to LM 2021 with 2 years worth of saved up st talk...that might be tricky.

Public gatherings
Public gatherings of more than 10 people will not be allowed until June 21, except in certain exceptional cases.

Events and gatherings of more than 5,000 people are set to remain banned until at least August 31.

Discotheques and clubs remain closed until further notice.

That's not a definite raising of the limit on the 1st September though.

ELMS is planning on starting in July (closed doors at Ricard) and then second weekend of August at Spa with WEC the weekend after, again, both closed doors.

Both closed doors is regarding the ELMS races at Paul Ricard (19th of July) and Spa (9th of August), you mean? Because regarding the FIA WEC race saturday 15th of August no news yet? Because I would definitely like to know as I have tickets, and still (hopefully) need to sort out accommodation.

As far as I'm aware. ELMS / MLMC at Ricard is limited paddock attendance, so I can't see how they can open the circuit to punters if media are being kept away.

F1 is certainly behind closed doors and that is after WEC, so unless the Walloon Government are saying ELMS /MLMC & WEC are small enough crowds not to be a concern, then I can't see any race at Spa in August being fully open. I'm expecting some news soon as to whether I'll be allowed to go, so will update when I know.

I'm not sure where this chap gets his info from but google translate says...

'Many of you wonder if you can make your annual pilgrimage to Sarthe for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Indeed, the current health crisis linked to the Covid-19 pandemic has created many uncertainties.

If the closed camera should be the norm this summer, the competitions contested from the start of the school year could, I say well could, welcome the public. We do not yet know in what proportion but the Automobile Club de l'Ouest will communicate information relating to the reception of the public and the activities which will be offered to them on Tuesday, June 30.'
