The simulator is rFactor 2, with their endurance pack DLC

https://store.steampowered.com/app/365960/rFactor_...

Alongwith iRacing, rF2 is the pinacle of sim-racing software.

Enjoyed the build up/ start, the sounds abd the commentary. Its ok, but nowhere near the real thing, its bringing it home what a weird world we are living in at the moment.

Amazing effort for sure, top marks

Surprisingly watchable, but I couldn’t watch for the whole 24 hours. The graphics are amazing - if this had been broadcast 20 years ago, it would have been regarded as real.

The bit that’s missing is the noise - No substitute for feeling, as well as hearing the cars - screaming 911rsr followed by a bellowing Corvette

Damn - missing the real thing....

Erm. It's rather good, better than Formula E :-)

The sounds are good enough from where I'm sat.

<rubs chin, looks at G29 setup>
Now, about remortgaging the house for the same sim kit.

Thought I'd catch it for 5 min so I could moan about it being as crap as the virtual F1 and... actually found myself getting in to it.

Some of the track sim. is rather dodge - there appears to be a part way around the track the cars step down without being unsettled in any way - but people do seem to be using their mirrors and there's less of the "screw it there's no damage so let's treat it like TOCA" driving going on.

And we have real commentators!

Gosh - video games have moved on a bit since Pong, haven't they?

This is much more watchable than I expected.

Is anyone else finding that after a couple of hours of watching, you become “acclimatised” to the graphics and it becomes more “real”

I was extremely sceptical before it started, but even after four hours, I’m amazed at how engaging it is.

Can’t wait to see how it looks when the light starts to fade, although I have a feeling that the properly dark hours will be less watchable

So just popped back on and... How does a virtual race get red flagged?!?!

And as a side bar has the real race ever been red flagged?

if you want a bit more car noise watch a 'Twitch' feed from one of the top drivers along with the race feed

Heavy rain is the usual cause of a red flag at Le Mans. Accidents especially if they damage the barrier may cause a red flag. I also missed why the virtual one was red flagged. Curious to know what caused it. Sounds like a server issue

rFactor does have a few bugs, and one of them is drivers joining the server to swap into the car, but not being able to see any cars at all. I believe this is what occured here, but the organisers practised a red flag procedure just incase this happened.

In practice sessions, the race has never been red flagged
