I'm starting to have an uneasy feeling. F1 and SPA WEC made it work, but the completion of the Tour de France is now being questioned. Like the Sarthe, Nice, (where it starts) is in a red zone, and if they, or the 24hr Moto have problems, then the ACO may become terminally nervous

BBC a few minutes ago:
A further 7,379 cases were confirmed on Friday, bringing the country's total to 267,077

The 24 Hour Moto. I was playing golf yesterday and commented that it was now unusual to hear engine noises coming from the circuit. We had completely forgotten that it is the race weekend, and of course there is no one about. Le Mans feels like the Marie Celeste. Eerie.

If La Sarthe is currently a red zone, what exactly does that mean?

No restaurants? No movement without just cause (supermarket) masks inside and out?

From last Saturday it’s compulsory to wear a mask in the Le Mans metropolitan area and some outlying villages, Change, Monce en Belin, at all times in the open
Red zone gives them powers to introduce measures but as far as I’m aware there’s nothing more than this.
I’m 40k south of Le Mans and nothing’s changed here, but then we don’t have the house density that parts of Le Mans has, lots of countryside and empty villages

It looks to me as if the race will be impractical to go ahead ,with Lowdrag's marshall reports ,it just can't happen and ACO

should admit it now and stop clutching at straws .

I know it is the most iconic race annually , despite what the yanks might say about Indy 500 , but they need to pull the plug on this year .

My crystal ball seems to be working. If the exponential rise continues, then its back to lockdown, but I say give it a week

As well as Le Mans, Monce en Belin's Red Zone starts at Arnage corner and goes south, its that close.

If there are few more cases around Le Mans, then there's no problem, so we have to see if the 24hr Moto is affected, and if the Tour de France becomes a superspreader everything is game over

Well, even without the disease I wouldn't much like to be camping here this morning. it's August and I have the central heating on, albeit gently. It's 9C outside, and the hum of the bikes is audible. But, as I've mentioned before, the lack of marshals has never seemed to concern the ACO before. The Le Mans Classic has always run with half the number compared to the 24 Hours in June. But I can confirm that one post is now without one marshal at all, so they'll have to bring some in from this great reserve I was told existed.

I suspect that as what's happened in the UK, marshal numbers will be severely reduced and if the race goes ahead they will have to cover incident handling in a different way. It will mean that there will be a greater reliance on safety car periods and slow zones. Just all in the hands of the french government now.

Moto 24 looked like just a big track day without the fans, with half the buildings with lights off, without the huge bonfires and clouds of smoke in the background. Really flat watching it (on TV of course) this year.

Entry list back up to 60 cars with another Algarve Pro / G Drive car, Nick Tandy and Olly Jarvis driving, good line up.
Also the Chairman of PSA is being given the flattery treatment and getting to drop the flag.

That's a decent entry.

Well I have never booked the ferry this early before for Le Mans! Just transferred by booking for Newhaven - Dieppe from September to June, having already moved it once from June 2020.

Couldn’t rebook the return journey via Calais as the schedule isn’t out yet.

My Moto 24 booking for 2020 has just been moved for the 3rd time, now to February for the princely sum of £1.
When the slots open up I'll probably move it to April for next years race

I'm probably too thick to work out I can have one of those. However, if young Mr Hill hasn't lost his ride for crashing on his first session (again ffs!!!) in the Moto 24 race, then we've decided to go next year again, we shall keep our tunnel slot because it has the right car for the trip etc. I can live with paying one more £1.

The bigger issue of course is will we be allowed to go by then? Will the world be back to normal. I really hope this vaccine from Oxford nails it because it will be in full distribution by then across Europe I believe.

Barstewards. We normally buy ACO membership as there is a small saving. The voucher is for
The ticket price only so I’m not sure whether I can use my membership to get discounted tickets again or if I have to pay again to get that discount.

Depends when your membership renewal is I suspect. So if your membership expires before you buy 2021 tickets you will have to renew it.

Seeing this thread pop up again made me think. The non-event will be over in two weeks. Just like the bike race was a week ago. It does seem so strange here. I must take a photo of the new Mulsanne bend all dressed up for you too.
