How about a pre-Christmas booze run to France?

I for one have never driven in France and am a bit nervous about trying to find my way to a hypermarket unscathed, so it would be good for a load of us to go over, with the more experienced drivers leading the way.

I works out a bit expensive to go shopping to France with the Elite. Firstly, its a long way to Dover From Weston Super Mare, and secondly, 10 cases of that French lager in those small bottles fills the luggage space. If however, there were to be a small, inexpensive tour of Northern France next summer, maybe using Dover/Calais on the way out and Cherbourg/Portsmouth on the way home, you could count me in.

Imagine the heartache if Customs stopped a run of TVRs and other exotica and detained the cars under suspicion of the booze being "not for personal consumption" as they have done with some travellers...

Mind you, I can only get half a case of fizz in the boot of mine so there's not much chance of that...

Shemus,

Popping off to France on Wednesday via the Tunnel, however may be persuaded to cross the channel again before Christmas. What route were you thinking of taking ? Tunnel/Dover/Portsmouth/Poole/Weymouth ferry ? Lots to choose from but would depend on the cost/miles !

How much beer can you get in a Tuscan ?

Hi Bob,

Haven't really thought about the route! Probably cheapest from Portsmouth? (long crossing though!)

I remember reading a report in Sprint months ago about a couple who went to France in a Tuscan, I've got a vague memory that they managed to squeeze a quite respectable 140(ish) bottles of wine in the boot!
