Meh, maybe for a slightly older generation. Not bad but I could quite easily be entertained elsewhere.

One of my fave bands (luckily I'm middle aged!) Will actually go to see a band a LM for once 🙂)

I stopped to watch the Stranglers for about 5 minutes a few years ago... I daresay SM are on race night so there's no chance of me missing the race for them....

Some joke about playing 'Speed Your Love to Me' at a car race would be appropriate if I could think one up.
I hope they're careful in careering down the Mulsanne straight.
After watching cars race for twenty four hours you're going to need a big sleep.

Nobody got anymore SM song title car racing puns?

Nor me. I go to Le Mans for racing, not to watch a band.

Never bothered with the bands before but I will watch Simple Minds this year.

Racing, beer, bbq and Simple Minds, perfect weekend. (not according to my wife though)

But the ticket includes the cost of the band. I don't understand it either. You don't get a GT race at Glastonbury

I guess it's because the race is on for 24 hours, and even the most ardent fan will struggle to stay in thier seat for the duration. With this in mind, the greatest endurance race in the world provides additional entertainment so that you enjoy all of your time there, not just the 6 hours before your arse goes numb. It's great to be able to drop in and out as the race progresses, you can go for food, come back, and in the hour you've been away literally nothing but the lap count has changed. Those are the times when something like seeing Simple Minds for an hours set is a perfect time filler and a wonderful addition to the over all spectacle.

Yeah, I get how these 'distractions' are good for those who aren't completely immersed in the race. If they had Peter Hook & The Light there next year, I'd probably have a different view..... wink

Adding bands to motor racing events is one of the reasons ticket prices have got so high, not that they’d go back down if they stopped having them on now.

Could do the same thing at a Test Match. Have NWA on stage in the beer tent singing all their favourite tunes ... Straight Over Cover, Deep Sweepa, Yo Fine Leg, Ball be Swingin', and of course How Dat, MoFo??
