- in quite a hurry to get onto Le Shuttle IIRC, which was why I didnt come and say hi.

... by that time, just wanted to get home... the "hangover from hell" had turned into "I need some sleep now" mentality.

... we had also noticed that there was a big two hour gap between the 11.30 train and the following one at some point well after 1.00am.... and I've been screwed up by the Eurotunnel too many times in the past.

Feel free to come and say hi next time, just excuse the bad smell from several days of alcohol abuse!

What a blast from the departure until i finally fell into my bed last night...think we maxed our speeds on the way down (well i knoe I did but some had a mad half hour yesterday on the way home)...max we saw was around 165 top down on the Calais - Rouen autoroute...but i know one of the Cerbies saw quite a bit more than that and the Skyline hit 170 taking over a rather bemused Aston owner yesterday.....

What i want to add though is how fantastic the roads are.....driving at speed is just so easy with the marvellous roads they have...reality does not take long to return when you hit the M20 !!!

On the way back, 165mph in an RS4 with 4 up and all our luggage with a few Elvis tunes on the stereo. A bit like the Stig on Top Gear with three of his mates. Quite surreal and a simply stunning motor car.

Saw 160 on the clock (although this turned out to be 149 according to my sat nav), but couldn't really go any quicker as the car is still being run in and the first shift light came on).

We didn't see a single plod on the way down or back, although we went down via Cornfleur and drove back via Chartres yesterday.

Tagged on to the back of the ratpack convoy for a bit on the way back which was great fun (those Cerbie exhausts sound awesome!), but my girlfriend was a bit nervous about driving so fast in traffic so we backed off a touch.

Fantastic experience though, and I can't wait to try it again when the car is fully run in!!

Me too, never saw a single officer in blue on the way back. (or the way down come to think of it).

Managed to wind up the T350 to 165, and was still pulling.

Had some fun with an S3 on the way home, dark blue W reg, if you guys are on here I would really like to see the Photo's!!

Roll on next year!

Managed to get 150 in my Corrado on the way down, which is a new PB so quite pleased with it (three up and all...)

Agree with the comments about the way back - we left Karting Nord at 3 ish and the police presence was quite amazing. Really different to the last couple of years. Managed to get my first ever ticket, but I think speaking a little French helped keep the fine down, so as a tax for the last 3 years of enjoyment I can live with it. However, it was frustrating afterwards having to drive so slowly. Will think about heading back on Monday next year.

Cruising at 130 with roof down. Got from Calais to Le Mans in 4hrs 15 mins on Thursday morning. Not a speed trap or officer of the law to be seen :-)

Different story on the way back. Loads of traps, but lots of french drivers were warning us.

Also saw a guy ina 911(996) Cabroilet getting cuffed and sat on the floor, on our walk back from Arnage. Must've had a heavy right foot.

Good to see the different mentality of the french towards the nice cars. No animosity - just admiring looks.

Roll on Le Mans 2004.

i don't think i got over 102mph all weekend, but i also didn't drop below 90mph much either...

this was proven by our little convoy beating much faster and exotic machinery on the way home despite them setting off hours before us...

did manage 100mph between mulsanne and indianapolis including overtaking a purple TVR much to the amusement of the two MG's who were trying (and failing) to keep up...

Early Friday morning we went for a cruise round the track, ended up doing a rapid 0-120 from Mulsanne corner to show my mate in his Boxster what a blown V8 looks and sounds like from behind!!

what happens when the frog chops confiscate your licence? How do you get it back?

Do they actually have that juristiction? I suppose you are in violation of their country's speed law's but it seems a bit dodgy to me... That licence is yours and is surely the property of a) you and b) Briain Plc. What happens when you are in this country and they have your licence?

As for them getting other people to drive your cars - what about insurance? Its illegal to drive in this country without adequate cover, so to not allow someone to drive because of a speeding violation but then allow someone without insurance to drive the same car, seems blooming ridiculous to me....

The Le Mans info pack i had stated that the french police class everything at 40kph or more over the relevant speed limit as a serious crime, NOT an motoring offence now.

This is what I've heard :

The EU has recently changed the law regarding prosecution of speeding and dangerous driving across Europe. The implications of this change are as follows:

1. Foreign police forces can pursue driving offences against EU citizens with similar ease to those committed in the UK and offences are reflected on your driving licence - so the days of the quick bung and no points on the licence may be up

2. Any speed above 120mph (in France) is automatically considered dangerous driving - mandatory court appearance (in France) and optional road side confiscation of vehicle. A conviction for dangerous driving carries a mandatory custodial sentence.

3. 40 khp above the speed limit means a suspension of your licence - hence they were keeping yours.

Let us know how you get on!

As co pilot I cannot incriminate myself so.....
On the route down I saw a genuine 175 on an 03 Porcshe C4S, it does exactly what it says on the tin!

One of our group topped 180 in a Cerb with us just behind. Was smokin' like a bitch though!!!!!

Route back was 3.5 hours. Arrived 2 hours early for our train!

A high light for us was to see a Lambo and Zonda racing down while we were pulled over gassing up. No chance of catching them. The Zonda sounded amazing.

regards to you all.

I managed 180(ish)mph 2 up in my 993TT (slightly breathed on) on the superb road between Caen ring road and Cherborg (spelling??). Nearly shit myself when a car on the inside lane far in the distance decided to move into outside lane for no reason! Luckily I slowed down rapidly and he saw me very late and moved back to inside lane sharpish.

Managed to get stopped on way down to LeMans for crossing white line. Bel radar detector on dash board sent the natives into a fury, taken to police HQ, unit confiscated together with instant fine of 750 euros.
Bundled into police car and taken to nearest bank to withdraw my contribution to their Christmas fund.
We should have never given the country back to the b******s in 1944!!
Other than that a splendid weekend.

Trip from Cherbourg on Friday fast and trouble free. Saw a few brits but all driving relatively sedately in small convoys complete with poor lane discipline.... just wouldn't move out the way so after a few warnings had to undertake. Saw only two mcycle cops whole journey. Touched 162mph but traffic put paid to real blast.
Returning Monday similar story but did make 168mph at one point when conditions allowed. Car? 996 C4.

I must admit my view of the French police is they must surely be fairly indulgent. Compare with locally to home where there is a m/cycle meet once a month and the cops descend in droves, hiding everywhere trying to catch middle aged m/cyclists enjoying themselves.

140mph on the D20 (narrow single carriageway!)

Then the sequential geabox gave up and wouldn't select a gear higher than 2nd. Car spent the week in Bernay.

Mondial Assitance kindly provided a Skoda Octavia 1.9TDi for the week - best effort downhill was 193kmh on the peage.
